EphelDuath666 wrote:Actually now that I played it I can also recommend Dead Island. You played tons of Borderlands and Dead Island actually has borrowed quite a lot from that game. The skill tree system is not complicated at all, kind of like in Borderlands. There's no hour long conversations, each character has his own specialties, there's plenty of looting to do. So maybe it's a game that you'd enjoy! Oh and you can play it with 3 friends cooperatively too! It's kind of like Borderlands meets a little bit of Fallout and a good portion of Left 4 Dead.

Dead Island has skill trees? I just saw a couple screenshots and assumed it was another zombie cut-'n'-shoot-'em-up. It actually sounds like it may be awesome, so I'll have a look. Not to derail the thread, but I thought I'd update on games I've played recently, and see what you guys thought about them.

Playing currently: Crysis 2, Uncharted 3, STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl
Recently played: Crysis, BFBC2, HL2 (and Episodes 1 & 2), Portal 2, Bastion, Borderlands (duh), Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Uncharted 1 & 2, Left 4 Dead 2
Looking forward to playing: Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, MGS HD Collection, L.A. Noire, Bioshock: Infinite, GTA V, Syndicate

It's easier to say that I didn't care for Uncharted 1 or Brotherhood than to name each of the other games that I loved. So far, Crysis 2 and Uncharted 3 have been pretty so-so. I'm more than halfway through Crysis 2, though, so I don't think that bodes well for it. I just started STALKER, but I have a feeling it's going to be a lot like my Fallout 3 experience, in that I'm just not RPG-savvy enough to do it right, so I end up underpowered and somewhat fucked. :/ Anyway, I'm so stoked about Skyward Sword this month. It feels like I'm 10 again. So, what are your thoughts about any/all of these games, dudes/dudettes? (Also, feel free to PM me if you want to play some vidja games; my Steam name is the same as this one).

If you're one of the dudes who LOVED San Andreas but was tweaked about scaling down of the sandbox content of the game in IV, I'd politely agree. HOWEVER, I think R* learned the lesson with this one (Jets/Planes seem to be in, aptly omitted from the previous game). Hell, they even remedied this problem somewhat with the Gay Tony expansion.

There's that, the reworked controls that was not too great, lesser of everything, missions, cars and weapons.
And the plot that left me completely uninterested. I have not played the DLC's so I cannot comment on them.

They did great on Read Dead Redemption, I'm sure they can pull of another great Grand Theft Auto.

Dead Island is not for everyone though. People love it or hate it. I think it's very much like Borderlands. Don't expect a great story. I enjoyed my playthrough though. And co-op adds plenty of fun to it, really. Just like Borderlands. It ain't awesome when you play it alone but with friends it's a blast.

And you didn't like Uncharted 1 and don't like part 3 so far? Whaaaaa? Hehe, to each his own. I'm sharing your excitement for Skyward Sword though. I have been looking forward to this for a long time too. I didn't really get into Windwaker and the DS games too much. The artistic style of those games just wasn't my cup of tea. Although I'd love to play Ocarina of time on the 3DS, that one just looks wonderful :D

Crysis 2 didn't do much for me either. I only played it for 5 or 6 hours but it bored the hell out of me. I will have to finish it sooner or later though.

Uncharted 1 just had really obnoxious writing (it's improved since then, and Drake isn't that annoying anymore) and really repetitive gameplay. I just felt like I was going through the motions. The second one was really enjoyable, though. As for 3, it's okay so far, but it hasn't picked up; I've only played like 4 or 5 chapters. And with Crysis 2, I just think they fucked up. It feels like I'm playing Battlefield, but also I've got a few superpowers. That (to me) is lame, compared with the first game--no open world, no dialogue from my character (why couldn't I be Nomad again?), and it's just lost that exciting, not-sure-if-I'll-make-it feel. That, and every time I finish an objective, it gets yanked away at the end; that is a tiring plot mechanic.

Have you played Morrowind/Oblivion? With Skyrim coming out, I have people telling me that they're awesome all over the place, but I'm not sure if they'd be my cup of tea (not too into the swords/dragons thing...).

I played both for a bit. Oblivion seemed good but had a few annoyances to it. I accidently hit someone I was supposed to help with my sword and he chased me for ages after that and it basically was so annoying that I ended up killing him which fucked up a sidequest  I hate that kind of stuff. The Elder Scrolls games are basically like Fallout 3, I'm sure you played that one. I remember you said that you are not really into RPGs with tons of dialogue and insanely complicated skill trees. In that case you might wanna skip the Elder Scrolls games, heh :P
Skyrim looks awesome but I'll wait for the Game of the Year Edition. I want all DLC and I prefer to have it on disc so I'll wait untill late 2012 or early 2013, I guess  IF I can successfully keep myself from buying the regular game untill then! Worked out well with Fallout New Vegas though.

guess some lucky guys were able to play an accidently leaked beta demo of Mass Effect 3. Who ever accidently leaked it will probably have to look for a new job soon!
