I do have to say, visually the game is outstanding. Playing as a Big Daddy is pretty cool (the underwater sections are awesome)

My main gripe with the game is how easily you can die on the Normal setting. I dont exactly understand how every other Big Daddy in Rapture can take so much damage without flinching, but if you get shot by a lowly splicer about 3 times, most of your health is gone. I finished the original Bioshock without dying once on Normal, I've already died at least 5 times, and twice in one fight.

Besides that the game is great. The story is pretty compelling(not as much as ME2, yet. The intro cutscene has almost as much impact as ME2's though) Cant wait for the major story twist though, it's pretty inevitable

Also, the AvP demo has almost a full 5 star rating on xbox live. Maybe it's more one of those games that critics dont like but the general gamer does.

I can't wait until my roommate ponies up and gets Bioshock 2. I've been looking forward to that for awhile. Although I read somewhere that they were planning as many as 5 sequels (?). That seems a bit excessive, since I can't imagine them changing the game all that much. On that note, is it essentially a rehashing of the same old Bioshock, as I expect?

Yes and no. It has a lot of the things that made the first game great with some good stuff added on. Being able to use plasmids and weapons at the same time is a big plus, the difficulty has definitely been bumped up.

5 sequels does seem quite a bit excessive. I mean, they're all probably going to be the same thing "X person stuck in Rapture, wants to get out, has to work for X person over the radio, story twist"

All I'm going to say is if they dont change it up by the 3rd game they will start to become very monotonous.

My understanding is you can now explore the ocean floor in the 2nd one, whereas you were confined to Rapture in the original game. True?

Yup! The ambiance and atmosphere of those parts is great. Some of the coolest non-combat stuff I've seen in a game.

I've also come to really hate that in both Bioshock games, almost every NPC that isnt a Splicer is behind a pane of glass. You rarely, if ever, come face to face with one. Please explain yourself, 2k Marin.

Partly so you can't kill them, partly so you don't miss the cutscene by running away or something, and partly because no one trusts anyone in rapture, so why not keep something in the way? (From what I've gleaned from various forums.)

Bioshock 2 had easily one of the best endings I've seen in a game in a while. Granted I went for the "good" ending. Kind of anxious as to what the bad ending is. All I know is the good ending was not what I thought it would be, makes you think and is kind of touching.

Definitely going to give it a second play through, it deserves it. Especially due to the length. A lot shorter than it should/could have been.

AvP got 8.5/10 from IGN....that is pretty damn good! A game by Rebellion that actually got a good rating...has been a while since that happened!

and I'm officially tryign to beat Mass Effect 2 on insanity difficulty. Fuckin hard but I'll try it anyways, already recruited 4 team members in addition to Jacob and Miranda. I hope I can get it done. What I'm a little worried about is ammo. It's not just that enemies are stronger but there's also a lot...and I mean A LOT, more of them. And I'm a little worried about the husks and them just oberwhealming me. They were annoying enough on normal difficulty already. And on insanity difficulty you really see how crappy the AI in this game is. Your team mates are pretty good at dying...and that's about it which makes you easily run out of medi-gel. Not sure how far I will get untill I lose my mind but we shall see.

Oh yea, on normal and veteran the friendly AI isnt bad, they definitely tend to die more the higher the difficulty...

Actually risking my sanity and playing Bioshock 2 on hard. I have a feeling I may end up taking a break from the game if it gets too frustrating. Luckily dying really has no consequence and I know which plasmids and tonics will be the most beneficial this time.

I've been pretty majorly hooked on UFC Undisputed 09 since I got it. It's brilliant fun, albeit a bit tricky to get to grips with, as there's a pretty massive amount of moves and transitions and all that that you can pull of. It's a bit stupid that you've only got 25 ranked fighters and you get thrusted up the ladder fairly quickly at the start, but it's very difficult to get your stats and skills up to the level of the main guys. I find it's very easy to get to 9-0 and then you hit the highly ranked people and they're overall at about 90 and you're at about 30 or 40 so you just get owned. Also once you get to the top and get the title and defend, it gets fierce boring as you just end up fighting the same three or four guys over and over again.

Also you don't age at all, you just stay whatever age you input at the start, in spite of the fact that time moves on. Plus you're forced to retire after 7 years, which is a bit annoying. Apparently the one for this year will be much more fluid with in game motion, which is good to hear. There's a lot of problems with minor stalling mid-fights, as well as slow reaction times. The slow reactions can be annoying as flash knockouts are fairly common. If you can get over all the little niggly annoyances though, it's a very good fighting game. Hoping Undisputed 10 in May will be even better!

hmm, reviews are all over the place...I will have to find out myself when my copy arrives in a few days. But I'm a fan and I guess not too picky since I actually enjoyed the second AvP movies a lot. So I guess I'll enjoy this game!

also, progressing nicely in ME2 on insanity difficulty. The Collector Ship was a friggin' bitch though! And I HATE husks on that difficulty setting. H-A-T-E them!!!

I commend you for even playing it on that difficulty.

That's what I noticed too, reviews for AvP seem very mixed. I've heard a lot about poor controls (which I can definitely believe) and how the campaigns are pretty standard.

New Resident Evil 5 DLC comes out tomorrow, cant wait to play it since I'm such a sucker for anything Resident Evil.

dang, I very much want to play the new RE5 DLC too but am still busy with Mass Effect 2 on insanity (I only need to get through 5 more actual missions...I suppose the final mission will kick my ass, I hope I won't destroy my controller!) and I should receive my AvP Hunter edition tomorrow or Friday. But I'll definitely play the RE5 DLC at some point!

Another one in the same flavour. What's the best way to fight piracy? It's simple - by making the life of legit customer miserable. Ubisoft's new DRM system requires constant internet connection to play even single player game. Connection broken = player kicked out of the game and losing progress since the last checkpoint. From-your-own-single-player-game.

I actually think this is a really smart move on Ubisoft’s part… they have a right to protect their profits you know. If anything, this kind of DRM doesn’t really go far enough.

Think about it, if your internet connection drops out for a moment and you are (rightfully) kicked out of the game you paid for, you can still go back into the game with absolutely no lasting consequences when your connection is back up again. What the fuck is that?! You lost your damn internet connection and then can just carry on gaming willy nilly 5 minutes later whilst Ubisoft sit there uncertain whether you are a pirate or not?

What they really need to do, is force customers to ring Ubisoft customer support’s international rate phone line every 150 seconds to obtain a rotating 47 digit alpha-numeric-symbollic case-sensitive serial key, read out to you in a distorted angry french accent, which you must input into a randomly moving and flashing dialog box within the game UI. Naturally, the input mechanism will be a direct console port so you won’t actually be able to use your keys, but you will be able to use the left and right arrows to scroll through all the characters to select them one by one.

They could even take a leaf out of Bioshock’s hacking minigame book and electrocute the tits off you if you typo it, or even have a bunch of klaxons set off as gun toting whirly-gigs come out of an obscured side hatch and mow you down in a hail of armour piercing depleted uranium .50 cal bullets for being a fat-fingered incompetent moron.

They clearly just haven’t thought about this properly yet. It’s sad to think that until Ubisoft wake up and realise there’s just so much more they could be doing to roger their customers, all these gamers around the world are going to be getting away with entire minutes of uninterrupted gaming pleasure.

Quite frankly, it sickens me.

I've been playing Half Life 2. It took me 12 or so hours to complete that damn game. For some reason, that game really got my blood boiling. Might have been the biggest pain in the ass game I've ever played. Now it's on to Half Life 2: Episode 1 ;_;

COOL!

Although,
I wish they released the Red Alert expansions as well. I had them all when I was a kid and I spend all my days with them. Until I got bored and sold them. I was so stupid. Red Alert was the most influential thing of my whole childhood. I hummed Hellmarch evey day i went to school :D

I also sold my N64 for 25 euros five years ago to a "friend" who turned out to be quite a jerk. I can't stand the thought of my N64 in his room. :furious: And only for 25 euros.

dang!!! Sega has some manufacturing probs with the facehugger that is included in the AvP Hunter edition. So it could take another 2 weeks before I receive it!!!

oh well, gives me time to finish ME2 on insanity. Only need to get through Legion's loyalty mission and the very last mission. Won't be a cake walk though, that's for sure!
