As far as differentials for how the science-fiction based game is played, honestly as mediocre as Too Human was, it certainly was attempting to try something different with the genre. I'm just tired of people playing it safe all the time in the games industry, and that definitely includes my employer as well.
It's not like I didn't love Mass Effect.I love the galaxy that was created, I mean my favorite thing across all media are well-fleshed out, fully conceptualized worlds/universe. I will use the storyline to push me through the game, but I'm reaching wits end on space based future shooters when it comes to gameplay. In my eyes, the shooter has kinda reached that critical maximum platformers had 15 years ago. It's not like Klonoa wasn't amazing back in the day, but something that brought something more to the table like Tomba is more revered in my memory. If that analogy makes any sense to you...
Calling me young? I distinctly remember the days before disc based gaming and the transition into it. Old school platformers died out, look at the Crash Bandicoot series. Huge on PS1 and had ok success on PS2, but they dont sell today. People got tired of the cartoony look of them and got tired of jumping from platform to platform to get to the top of a level.
That being said, it does get incredibly repetitive playing the same 4 maps on MW2 (because that's all it ever rotates it seems) and dealing with 12 year olds who think they are the shit and yell swears at you because mommy was too busy fucking the pool boy to care.
I'm all for innovation in games, Mirror's Edge is one of the most fun and original games I've played in the past few years, I've beaten it 4 times and one of those times was in recent months. I've actually been playing the "Serious Sam" games lately because I miss the days of arcade style shooters.
I never played Klonoa or Tomba because at the time I was more interested in the survival horror genre(remember when Resident Evil was about zombies and had horrible dialogue but good atmosphere? Well it still has one of those things today...)
Hell is waiting outside beyond these walls. It won’t save your soul to panic at this point.
