Hell yes. For some reason, I've always loved a lot of the Russian composers, especially Rachmaninoff and Stravinsky. And Shostakovich--that man threw down some truly wicked tunes, even with Stalin at his throat.

Now, I think I'm going to switch gears and listen to a little Debussy...

A little. Pictures at an Exhibition is really awesome, as is Night on Bald Mountain. I'm a little less familiar with him and with Prokofiev than I probably ought to be. Any suggestions?

But I grew up playing piano, and I had a phase where I was crazy about Rachmaninoff--the preludes, the études-tableaux, the concertos, the whole bit. Somehow, I got fascinated with a lot of (great) Russian music.

Yea, I have been watching some of the Youtube performances of Rite of Spring......Pretty invigorating stuff. Lots o' fun to watch....

I may have to cave and download it until I can get to the next city over (Grand Rapids MI). There are a few specialty stores there. I am thinking Schuler books may have it. I hope so...that store rules!! So chill, and their cd selection is just as big as the books....

Oh yea, I am in the Ki thread..........Uhhh, Ki rulez!!!!!

Dan

Strange.....Soul Driven is MY favorite piece of music ever. Trickle down theory at its best!

Does anyone elses stomach do somersaults during the Heaven's End solo? How in the hell is he doing that? Whammy pedal? I haven't a clue.

Listen to the swedish band Freak Kitchen (if you didn't yet) you will get used to that kind of solos. Actually i found it very similar to the song Heroin Breakfast (by the band i just mentioned).

Shostakovitch Piano concerto No 2 in F, 2nd Mov, for those of you who just think all he did was write angry music and hide his initials in his Symphonies. The most beautiful melody, so fucking full of beauty!! Check it out.
