Yeah, thankfully none of it was near here...or there'd be thousands gone.
As it is, there's 108 perished, over 5,000 homeless and at least 2 townships that are just about non-existent now.
Growing up as a kid, I used to hear stories from the oldies about "Black Friday" in Jan. 1939 when half of Victoria was ablaze and 71 died.
I saw first-hand the Ash Wednesday fires in Feb. 1983; they were much closer to home, as well as in neighbouring South Australia.
I guess this one kinda overshadows all the previous...
