Charlotte Martin - Darkest Hour (EP)

You'd think these were unreleased Tori Amos songs from 1991 if you heard them without knowing who it was singing. So fucking good!

HEY! I just discovered her today! She's mine, I tell you! MINE!!

Um, all kidding aside. I heard the samples and saw the 2 videos on her website and was very interested! My favorite Tori is Little Earthquakes (you know, before the lyrics descended into nonsense, and she had some concern for making pretty songs without a lot of useless extra instruments.) and it was everything that I liked about LE - Girl with good voice: check. Piano: check. Sad songs included: check.

On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate it?

10!! Easy! Seriously. I have all four of her releases right now and they're all excellent! It's been a few years since a female vocalist really did it for me. I think Emm Gryner was the last female artist that really impressed me, that was like 3 years ago.

Charlotte Martin is so damn good! I first got her In Parenthesis EP for $2, I love used record stores. Now I have a new favorite artist! =) So yeah, a 10, definitely worth the money. OK, a 9.8 because her Test-Drive Songs CD comes with no back artwork! Hahaha.

I'll see what I can do!! "Let's Have A War" and "A Question" are the two unreleased, right? My "S" rack toppled over last month so I don't have their CDs right here with me, but I think those are the two.

AND you've heard of Emm Gryner too? Holy crap! You're on top of your obscure chick rock! I love her cover of Crazy Train. Next you'll tell me you have the Anna Nalick album! I have Asianblue and And I Distrust It, and some random stuff I've downloaded. I really want to check out her first album as much of the random stuff that I like was from it.

Can you give me a rundown on the 4 Martin albums? Which are your favorites and why? Which order should I check them out in, knowing that I like sad girl-and-piano stuff?

I replied, but I made it way too long to put in here so I moved it to the Review section! :D

Make sure your version of Virus doesn't have that flickering sound on tracks 6, 7 and 8.

Oooh, i still can't get into Disco Volante. I love the debut and California is genius, but Disco still is too freaky for me.
