2001: A Space Odyssey followed by Full Metal Jacket. I actually prefer the first part of FMJ to 2001: A Space Odyssey, but the second part of FMJ drags on a bit for me and I think 2001: A Space Odyssey is just a masterpiece throughout.

No kidding...and that disturbing piano that runs throughout the whole movie...arrrrrgh!
I voted ""2001" btw, space always does it for me.
2 * 4 * 9!

Yeah, Eyes Wide Shut was probably the worst movie Kubrick made. The piano was fun, but all in all the movie felt very incomplete.

Wow, that's a very difficult choice... I liked all his movies, but I'm going to choose for Dr. Strangelove. The movie was pretty funny, and extremely disturbing at the same time.
Of course Full Metal Jacket rocks, but I'm not a huge fan of war-movies... and Clockwork Orange was cool, but a little overappreciated. 2001, was an awesome movie, and that would be my second choice.
Paths of Glory and Spartacus were both cinematographically great movies, but not my favorite subject. The Shining was cool, scary, and would be my third choice.
I have not seen Barry Lyndon, and Lolita and Eyes Wide Shut are nice, but a little bit too much of the softporn.

Now that I have seen "2001", I think it is my fave Kubrick film. That movie is quite a trip!

Too close to call between The Shining and Full Metal Jacket.
I'm a horror buff so I'm leaning towards the Shining but...

COMA, kudos because Stanley Kubrick is my favourite director but I have to admit, this poll is quite tricky...

OK I haven't seen Paths Of Glory or Spartacus but I have seen The Killing and that ain't on the list :(

The Killing is pretty cool, it was one of the first movies ever to have non linear narration (ie. Pulp Fiction).

I'm honestly surprised Barry Lyndon got a few good raps, I liked it but most people found it slow. It was the only movie that Stanley made that won an Oscar (best cinematography) and Stanley doesn't even get that award, the DOP does. Nice work nonetheless.

A Clockwork Orange is good but although very controversial and well made, I wouldn't say his best.

Dr. Strangelove should get some more mentions because its one of the funniest movies I've seen. Its humour is at the 'simpsons'(pre series 6/7)/'spinal tap' level. Very witty and if you're not paying attention you'll miss some classics.

Ok, which is my fave...
My favourite is Eyes Wide Shut. Not to say that I think its his best, its just my favourite. It is such a mind fuck of a movie and the more I watch it the more I like it. I hate Tom Cruise but I have no beef with him in this movie. I also love shit about secret societies.

His best?
It would have to be 2001. I was lucky enough to see it on the big screen a couple of years ago for its rerelease and fuck me sideways with was whoa.

My theory about this movie is that you can pause it at any time and whatever is on your screen is good enough to be mounted on a wall. Every single shot is brilliant. EVERY SINGLE ONE.

Coma, thank you for making a stanley kubrick thread. I can discuss his movies forever.

My favourite Stanley Kubrick movie would have to be 2001: A Space Oddessy, i first saw it when i was 15 i didn't understand it then and still don't understand it now. But to me it's still a great movie, i also enjoyed A Clockwork Orange which was one of the first films i saw by Kubrick. I'm still yet to see the whole of Full Metal Jacket, i always get up to the bit were "what's his face...the guy from criminal intent" blows his brains out and never finish the movie.

Did you know that the guy who did the sound track is pretty much the forefather of electronic music. He later got a sex change.

I have the sound track, its very good. I also have Eyes Wide Shut soundtrack, very very very good.

IMO, no one used sound better in their films that Stanley did.
