Haha, if you're not amazing then GOOD LUCK trying to play the rhythm part to Always with me, Always with You! Yikes.... That kicked my ass back in the day.

Oh yeah, SATCH, BRISBANE, MARCH 2005!!!!! :D

Yeah, if you're at the right level, its a great song to learn, shouldn't take you too long to learn, and really fun :)

I think there is a time in your progression at guitar, when metallica is great, starts to get you thinking in the righ tmindset for moving onto more difficult stuff...at least, thats how it worked for me

I'm not sure how I'd gauge that as I've had very little official lessons. However I have been playing for a few years. I need something that will help with soloing as that's my next step.

all us aussie bands should unite and gig together

I'm looking to get some bmx and or skate comps going because its a damn good way to plug bands.

Metal is quite prominent in the bmx scene.

For speed and tight picking I loved learning Fear Factory songs. For technical fingering I sat down and figured out In Flame-Whoracle(the album not the song) and dabbled with Carcass Heartwork.

Megadeth and Pantera are great to push your boundaries of what song structure can become PAST something like Metallica...but Metallica is like the bread and butter of playing a power chord based metal song.

Right now I'm fiddling with Carcass-Necroticism...I'm really digging the riffs because they aren't fully common finger patterns yet they feel ultra natural to play. Kinda like In Flames...

I agree with billy...Erotomania is a great song to play and figure out...though playing like Petrucci takes a lot of boring and utterly dull practice...like Vai and his 10 hour a day guitar workout...who has that much time?

yeah i dig petrucci but i wouldnt want to play like him, too much technique and not enough... mojo???

fuck learning metallica, I love the band so much but im sick to death of them when it comes to jamming or playing guitar. I've heard my brother play fade to black at least 10 times more than I've heard metallica do it. Then again, he can now play the solo about 3 times as fast and behind his head.
