Unsuccessful job applications can be a wretched experience. Infinitely more so when you're out of work. I hope you find something very soon.

Thanks. I try to be optimistic in interviews but outside of that, it's not so easy to keep the same attitude.

And my annoying downstairs neighbor has just come back from a long (but not long enough) vacation. Precious silence gone.

^ You've had this shit time with job finding for a few months now haven't you? I'm sorry it's been going so rough for you. I'm just starting up looking for a second job now too, and it's rough just trying to get someone to listen to me at all. Honestly best of luck to you, I hope that something pans out soon for you.

^Thanks.

The fan in my computer periodically whirs as fast as it can whenever I'm online (particularly when I'm watching a video or writing something) and sounds like it's going to explode.
I wish it would and put itself out of my misery.

Sounds like an odd suggestion, tried cleaning your computer? Even laptops needs a wee hoover now and then.

I can definitely recommend trying a good cleaning too! I found that out myself the hard way (well, not that hard after all) last month. My laptop had been running pretty hot with the fan running with just regular browsing, etc. I started really paying attention when Black Mesa showed weird slowdowns that I hadn't had before. After that I fired up Portal 2, and it shut down the whole computer after a few minutes of playing. No crash to desktop or simple freezing, it just shut down. After trying a couple of times with the same results, I checked my temperatures with Black Mesa, and it was obvious a good cleaning was needed. After getting all the dust out that I could, it's running nice and smooth again.

Had a bit of a break from social media last week during a week of time off, which was nice. I learned that facebook is really clingy though, as after a day or two of not logging in (either on laptop or phone) I started getting notifications of random people's status updates, friend recommendations, photo uploads, etc. Also, received emails each day telling me I got notifications pending. The fuck.

^That's ridiculous. I've never heard of that from anyone else before. I'm not surprised though. I don't know if they're tailoring to or exacerbating addictions by doing that sort of thing to people.

Yeah, no joke. I took a screenshot of my inbox because it's ridiculous.

I took a break from Facebook for about a month recently and while I didn't get that kind of email attention I did enjoy the break and now find myself far less hooked. I also deleted most of the stuff that was wasting my time. Made it a much more worthwhile experience.

Facebook is super for messaging musicians/semi-famous people you like when you're drunk. EVEN BETTER when they reply.

My sister's decided to build a bar in her house and I'm all about petty sibling rivalry so I decided to order a shed and turn it into a tiny tudor-style pub. She's genuinely fucking furious because hers will be stylish and tasteful, but I'm an FX artist with a workshop (and a bunch of exceptionally crafty mates volunteering) so mine's going to be ridiculous and no one will care about hers. I will post progress pics when it arrives in a few weeks.

That's your email inbox, right, not some mobile FB app or something? If it's the first, I recommend going to the notification settings and turn off a lot of stuff. By default, FB wanted to send email notifications for practically everything.

I've come to realise I'm a rather... phony facebook user. I hardly ever post anything, unless I am announcing a major life event or travelling somewhere. Most of my posts are automatic reposts from Instagram, Goodreads and such. I do use messaging, hidden groups and events quite a bit though. But that's mostly in the same way that I use texting on my phone. It doesn't exactly dominate my life much. It's a decent enough communication tool that's useful when I live abroad.
