well i was planning to see animal collective on thursday, but their lead vocalist has a gnarly case of strep throat, and their entire mini-tour has been cancelled :(

i'm sure their postponed show will be twice as grand, however.

Cattle Decapitation are touring in June (yay!) but are supporting local deathcore band Thy Art Is Murder, who've only been around since 2005, have only two albums (one of which is decent, the other shit) but are headlining because they've been signed to Nuclear Blast and have a thousands of Facebook likes. You read that right - Facebook stats now make a band a headliner, not years of experience, multiple releases and international renown.

To be fair, I did listen to some of their tracks from both albums just to see if they would be worth catching live.

I'll be leaving early, I think.

well, it's ALL about facebook these days. It's a fucking disease. Even friggin Haribo gummy bears have a facebook page now.

And a band getting a headliner spot because of facebook stats, that's just nuts. What's next? Will you need a certain amount of facebook likes to get a job?

What a fucking depressing future that would be if so. Even Blade Runner isn't that dystopian.

yeah, I just had a conversation with a guy yesterday and he was like "but...but...facebook is so cool because I can meet new friends on there and it's so easy to meet people and get together." Sooooooo, you can't meet people when you just leave your freaking house anymore nowadays? And people you add to your facebook friends list are usually hardly friends.
Can't believe how often I heard the argument "well, it's so great to use facebook to stay in touch with family and friends if they live far away". Sure, but who actually uses it just for that purpose? Hardly anyone. And there has to be a fucking 'like' button on every fucking site now. Because it's much more important nowadays to 'like' some random statement than actually having a meaningful opinion on anything.
Go to Amazon and try to find an actual review of an item anymore. The most useless "reviews" get the most thumbs up because people agree with them although that's not what the review function is there for. Thanks facebook for fucking up the internet and plenty of people. Ach....yes, I love facebook. Ahem..sorry, had to get that out of my system. You know, internet constipation.

/rant mode over :P

Started reading Clive Barker's Abarat series. Recently finished the first book, off to the library to get the second. It may be aimed at young adults, but it's universal enough to be read by everyone (much like The Thief of Always; love that book).

I keep thinking Imperial would be an awesome song for a UPS/DHL/Domino's Pizza/... advertisement.
