They can be in the play-in game vs. punky bruster winners.

Basically Sit in the Mountain crushes the competition.

personally, i see no reason to include devlab or hummer. i'd go so far as to say punky shouldn't be included either but could understand if it is. are you gonna include "bonus" or non-album songs (i.e. Japan, nerd alert, christeen EP, contain us, etc.)? assorted demos? could get too complicated if you do but just a thought.

I'm going to go with "No" on the bonus songs and demos, including Contain Us. Then again, I can't stop listening to Idom from the "Mikazuki In Rock" soundtrack album (If someone can somehow conjure up a physical copy, I would worship them, because I can't find it). And I could understand Punky not being included, but I feel like that one should go in. The way I am seeing it right now, Punky would probably get two songs into the field of 64.

Idom really fucks with my head, given how ingrained in my mind those SYL songs are.

Fucks with it in a nice way.

This man speaks truth. If it's a song contest surely every song should be included, no matter how obscure! Some of the stuff on the Ass-Sordid Demo album are class, like. Red Tomorrow, for example, shits all over a lot of the stuff that's been on actual proper albums. Throw 'em all in, I say!

Agree. Om is another one that deserves to be on there. It's a killer tune.

Believe it or not, based on the "Best songs in each album" polls, I have the bracket done for every regional except for the Strapping Young Lad regional. So here's what I propose: I'd like to put together a mini-selection committee to help me seed the SYL regional. It would be very simple: PM me your top 4 songs from each Strapping Young Lad album (ranked from 1-4). The first five people who PM me their choices (OR anyone who PMs me their choices by Monday at 3 AM ET, whichever happens last) will get their votes counted in with my top 4 from each album. Then, I will complete the bracket and we can start this thing.

EDIT: The demos and bonus tracks are currently not on this bracket. I have absolutely no idea where I would be able to put them unless I expanded it to 128 songs. And that would just be nuts. That might be something we can do for next year, when I can do this in a more timely fashion and have a mini-tournament for each album (and include Epicloud in the process).

OK, based on what I have so far for SYL (4 PMs and my own votes), I have unofficially finished the bracket. With that said, I am still keeping the PM-ing option open until 3 AM ET on Monday morning, which leaves you guys with just over 12 hours to put your spin on the SYL regional. Then, I'll get this bracket going, post up the links to the first batch of polls, and work on the "Ass-sordid Championships" bracket.

The bracket and polls are ready, and it's all in one neat little place. I hope you guys enjoy! Spread the word!

Here's my personal thoughts on the bracket:
-Despite being the overall #1 seed, Earth Day didn't get any special favors in drawing Depth Charge for the first round.
-I tried to avoid potential 2nd-round matchups of Earth Day/Deep Peace and Color Your World/The Greys, but I ended up tearing in a whole in my brain trying to find one.
-Deadhead vs. By Your Command is an amazing first round matchup.
-The Namaste/Truth and Bad Devil/Seventh Wave section of the Physicist Regional was quite possibly the hardest for me to vote on because I love every song in that section of the bracket.
-Deconstruction (the song) was massively underseeded in my opinion, but that's why I let the polls be the main (and just about the only) factor in seeding, and not my heart.
-Overall, I'm quite satisfied with how the S.Y.L. bracket turned out. There's a nice balance of everything, with every album getting at least 3 songs (City being the only one to get four) into the field. With that said, I'm sad that Zen didn't get into the bracket, with that being my second-favorite SYL song of all time (All Hail The New Flesh).
-Which reminds me, the #16 seed for that regional came down to a random number generator to break a tie between Zen, Shine, Far Beyond Metal and The New Black. The New Black was probably the last song I would've chosen, but on the bright side, it assured a numerical balance of album representation.

Voting will be open until Sunday, April 22 at 4 AM ET.

...what?

/derp

The first "Force Fed" is supposed to be The New Black. Thanks for the catch. Don't know how I missed it.

EDIT: I had to fix the poll for Death of Music vs. Material because it said votes weren't being accepted. I have no idea why.
