Who would we be to doubt that?

When I asked the tour manger a couple of months ago, he indicated that Devy wouldn't be at Tuska, although that could just be the tour guide being the master of deflection, because he shifted the topic to a different conversation.

Paul (or anyone for that matter) probably wouldn't know that far in advance, besides two years in a row for one band is one thing, but three is very unprofessional of festival organisers.

Why is that unprofessional? If an artist consistently manages to draw people to a festival and give a great show, why not?

I agree. People in Finland love Devin Townsend, especially because of the Ziltoid show. Hell, I met someone in line at an Arch Enemy concert in Helsinki and the first thing we talked about was Devin Townsend and how awesome he is. I'm from some podunk town in Wisconsin and am studying in Finland, so this is quite a nice switch for me.

Well, Tuska has tried to keep a policy of not booking the same bands for two years in a row. People appreciate diversity, so I guess this applies to most festivals.

Helsinki is not a huge town, and Tuska has a more-or-less loyal core audience. The choices for the line-up are then made according to how well they please these people, and not about trying to draw a new crowd (there is no new crowd who wouldn't be familiar with the festival). Last year I heard a lot of complaining about Devin being there again after playing two sets the previous year, and taking up a headlining slot which could have been used for something more interesting (in their opinion)

I guess we'll see. As long as I see him SOMEWHERE in Europe (excluding the UK, which I refuse to go to because the currency rate between the dollar and the pound is still fucking awful) this summer, I'll definitely be satisfied.

The festival headliner usually brings in about three quarters of the ticket sales, if you book the same headliner each year, you build up a core audience- like Ozzfest. But the year you do not have that band booked, you alienate the audience built around that booking. It's important to refresh a festival lineup so this can be avoided and the festival will sell out on it's own merit, not for one specific act.

I'm gonna be very surprised if he'd show up at tuska this year aswell, like the guy said, alot of complaints last year. I didn't complain, it was great as hell to see Devin up there. But we'll see...
