Mine too (or close to it), but instead of Supercrush!, I would replace The Mighty Masturbator with probably something uncommon like Ocean Machines or Juno, which I now can't stop listening to. I not a huge Deconstruction fan beyond the first 3 songs. I only listed TMM because it has the most votes in the Decon favorite song poll.

If I may be so bold, all the Professor "I would never listen to just one song" folks are making me gag. I rarely post here, but I was genuinely curious about the answers in this thread, and all I got was a bunch of people trying to explain art to me. Clearly, you DON'T understand the art, because if there's anything Dev taught me is taking things and playing them at inappropriate times is experimental and fun. "Oh why is there a scream after a slow song?" Cuz Devin is fucking with you. He doesn't want you to sit on your velvet recliner with a corn cob pipe and say, "My word, Caruthers, that sure was a riveting diarrhea sound effect I just experienced."

If the composition was perfect, he wouldn't have set lists, he would just play albums live. The only reason I know he did play them live in full was to record it for the live albums.

Anyway, yeah, I'll probably just get yelled at by the "I took a semester in Music Science at DeVry institute," art-teests. So.... yeah. That's the end of my rant.

Also, I don't ALWAYS skip, but you know... I have things to do and sometimes I want to hear a song, not wait 45 minutes for it to come within the context of the music-listening experience.

Sometimes I'm in a certain mood... and I just bounce album to album picking songs that fit that mood.

I usually skip stuff that's white noise with muffled words, like the beginning of Terria. I ALWAYS skip deconstruction because it's literally full of diarrhea and makes me feel like I have to shit, and I have recut most of Ziltoid to not have the Space opera narration. Can ya deal with that?

...... Sorry.

Sorry, all the folks trying to talk to others like plebeians because they don't sit down and consume full albums all the time just got to me.

Although.... I think theres a lot of words that could describe my rant.... pretentious really didn't spring to mind. What was pretentious about it?

I don't disagree with much of what you said, (Deconstruction aside ;)) I just thought the language you chose to tout your point of view was more or less the same issue you're taking with others.

No biggie.

*Large fart sound effect that ruins the validity of this post.*

Yeah, I didn't mean to be a dick about it. But it was one of those things where you read the first one and you're like... ... then the second one and you're like.. :x .... then  ..... then :furious: , then finally by the time I posted I was :chain:

I just felt bad for the original poster, because he actually had an interesting thought and I feel like everyone just went and tried to make him feel like he was wrong.

But to stay on topic, rather than talk about the parts of the thread... I gotta say, yeah the diarrhea ruins Decon for me. It's an amazing song, but those sound effects make me want to just jump on a toilet and evacuate my bowels. I remember when Dev posted the link to it, I posted that I could live without the poop effects, and he said something along the lines of, "It's an unfinished work, more will be done to it." I didn't realize he meant he was adding more violent fecal devastation.

For me the most interesting thing about this thread is that practically every mentioned skipped song is someone's favorite. That shows that not only Devin's music is very diverse but also the musical interest of his devotees. And it seems that there isn't a single song that nobody likes.

EXACTLY. I think that shows the strength of an artist, if everyone who listens to him (or her, them, whatever) likes a different song best by them. I mean, if an artist can create all this music and each person can take something different away from it that's an incredible feat. I feel like that with Mogwai; their new album, everyone I talk to, has a different favorite song on it. Not to shit on bands where everyone pretty much unanimously likes the same songs from them, they are talented as well, but there's something special in being able to be so diversely talented as being able to appeal to so many different tastes.

@XIII

I can see your point totally, but we all have a different interpretation of Dev message and music,

For me it's like "Do what you love to do, and do it for the right reasons, be honest with yourself"

In this case it translate to me like "Listen to the music you like, and don't try to listen to everything just for the sake of making you feel like a better fan or a more intelligent one" Not saying that is the point of the ones who said they love everything, but that would the truth about me if I said that. (Yes this sentence will take you 3 times to understand, sorry guys  )

I really like experimental music, and always give some time for songs and albums to grow on me. But if after dozens of listens it still doesn't work, why would I keep going. Music affect emotions differently for everyone, and this is what is very interesting about this topic. You can actualy try to understand why it works for you and not for others and vice versa.

For me making a point like you can feel as much pretentious for someone as saying that you love everything Dev does. And still in both case it can totally be true that people feel that way. In my very humble opinion, being a fan is more than saying "I love everything you do" or in Dev's case "I love your balls"

Being able to say "I don't like that" and trying to explain why seems a better statement as long as you don't impose it to others.

The last two posts are a superb proof that this topic as a point because we can figure out some facts about Dev music. How awesome is the fact that a topic about songs we don't like end up saying : they're no real bad songs and each one of them get some love. :guitar:

personally i really like the spoken parts to ziltoid cuz i think it's a funny narrative and short enough where it doesn't get annoying. but that reminds me that i DID edit out all the spoken parts to punky bruster when i ripped to itunes. it's pretty funny, and again i still have the CD if I ever want to listen to it, but for the most part i don't feel like sitting through a couple minutes of dialogue to get to the music.

I understand the point. I mean, I'm not saying I don't like every song, that is I'm not always going to sit down and do a thorough listen in a sterile laboratory with studio monitors, EQ to perfection each time I listen.

And what I said about ziltoid honestly it mostly goes cuz I make compilations for my car, and those narrations do not always lead into the next song. Sometimes I do listen to two consecutive songs, but often... no.

I pretty much skip everything past Blackberry on Ghost, minus Texada.

On Decon, I skip the "techno" section of TMM, then the songs between it and Poltergeist

Addicted I skip Hyperdrive

Ki I skip some of the jams (Aint Never Gonna Win) if I feel like it

Ziltoid I don't think I ever skip a thing, I even finish Tall Latte most of the time!

Synchestra I never skip a thing if I am listening to the whole album

AE I skip Suicide sometimes

Terria I skip Olives a lot, and most of the time I am not in the mood for Deep Peace

That's all I feel like listing right now, lol
