Well said, and better so than I. I guess more what I meant was that these are the faces of our country that the rest of the world sees-- The Rick Perrys, Sarah Palins, Michelle Bachmanns, etc, get so much air time that I find it no surprise the rest of the world thinks as such of us. This is a completely contradictory statement to what I previously said, but I too don't think we as a collective are idiots, but our politicians certainly do a good job of making us look that way. I too on my world travels have tried to change this stereotype, and I hope I've done a good job. Still, it's a lot to fight against. Especially when our entire government, both sides of the coin, act like little children who can't solve the simplest issue. But I think to hope to change things one must fight against that. I guess that comment was born out of the frustration that people like Rick Perry exist and actually have a shot (even though he, honestly, doesn't have much of one) at being the spokesperson of this country.
So a really round about way of saying it but... I completely agree with you It's just a frustrating place the US is in right now, in so many different ways.
