Thanks. I googled "formspring", "dvntownsend" and "score", and here is what I found :

"Q : Would you ever consider scoring a movie? If so, if you were ever given a choice, what kind of movie would score?

A : Would love to, no offers yet though. Probably a sci-fi, drama, horror comedy.

Hey, thanks for that. That's really cool. I wish I still had all my recording stuff atm, I'd really go into detail.

I'm just about to start work on a novel that uses Devin song titles as chapter names - nothing explicit that could potentially get me into legal trouble, just "Life" and "Death" and "Love?" and so on. It's a downbeat drama with one large sci-fi element. In the unlikely event that I finish it, and (even unlikelier) it gets turned into a film, and (unlikelier still) I have any kind of creative control over said film, I'll push for Devy to do the score, or at least allow me to use "Deep Peace" for the end credits. It'd fit the tone so beautifully...

Me and a friend is currently working on a script for a tv-show.
Kind of Black Books meets Always Sunny in Philadelphia meets Little Britain... Ish.

It's working towards and idea I have of a horror/comedy. I've been working on that
idea for over ten years so it's my little brainchild. Just thinking the idea of having
it scored by Devin. This must happen. This is now my goal. OFF TO WORK!!

A few months ago I was in the running to get a job as a film trailer editor.

When i met Dev I asked him if I could use his music in some film trailers. He said something along the lines of "go for man, the phone isn't exactly ringing off the hook for me!" Unfortunately I didn't get the job :( would have been a cool way to give Dev exposure!

Dev's a master at throwing together a thick mix. I've been writing & mixing music on my computer now for 6 or 7 years, and when I discovered Dev's music, it threw a gigantic wrench into my established methods of mixing :D I was decent at it before, but listening to Terria/Infinity/ProjectEKO/Alien really opened my ears towards what was possible. Those Protool Skool vids that he did were tremendous, I learned a ton from those.

You know how some artists, mainly drummers as far as I know, will do instructional DVDs (gene hoglan, mike portnoy, thomas lang, marco minneman, and even sean reinert has one coming out soon)? I'd love to see Devin make a DVD that teaches his way of protooling and stuff. Not that I use protools, but the ideas carry over into whatever programs we're working with.

Here's a fun fact I am claiming fame for. After Synchestra got released I used to listen to 'Sunset' constantly, after a while I started noticing this echo-y 'pop' effect on every 2nd snare hit during the 2nd half of the song. (I guaran-damn-tee there will be at least 10 people that go off and listen as soon as they read this aswell :). The funny thing is, I mentioned it on here somewhere, and this was back in the day when Ryan still perused the forums from time to time, and even he hadn't noticed the sound. My point is that even those people that recorded the album with Devin don't know half the sounds that get used!

Just listen to Morwar! When that got put out on the ass-sordid 1 cd it was the most chaotic track he'd done up to that point, imagine some of the songs he's done since then! Mental!

weird. the sound is pretty obvious to me. maybe he just didn't the finished product much of a listen after spending so much time hearing it during the recording process.

That just seems to be a thing some snares do, doubt it was on purpose by devin, but its possible

It's too regular and organized into the rhythm to be a random effect of the snare. Besides, any unaccounted for noises would have been edited out or Dev would even have had another take recorded to get it how he wanted it to sound.
