Someone will post a tune on here, and I'll be all hyped to check it out. The music starts, and I'm like "yeaaahhhhhh....," and then the vocals start, and they sound like Dr. Claw from Inspector Gadget:

They all sound like that, for the most part. Or, sometimes they go from clean to that, but always back to that. It is like country singers who all sing with an accent or a twang when they aren't even from the South. It's just gets a bit silly. It's like "Dude, I know you weren't born sounding like Dr. Claw, and it took you years to sound like all these metal singers. Now, why don't you stop and ask yourself 'why?' Why would you want to sound like them, and not like you? What does your voice sound like?"

I'm so glad we have Devin. So glad.

And that is why you should check out Ghost :D
They look like your ordinary Black Metal doods but I promise you - Papa Emeritus I sure can sing :D
And I think you have the right sense of humor to appreciate it. *nods*

edit: (Yes I am obsessed and I want everyone to share my obsession. :P )

I saw a comment on YT that described Ghost as 'a shitty Mercyful Fate rip-off with the Beach Boys thrown in'.

That had me hooked right there.

I saw an article on them in Metal Hammer some time ago and wrote them off as being as crap as every other new band that Metal Hammer ever features. If they had described them like that I would have gone out and bought the album immediately.

Bit of Vext-era Divine Heresy. Back when it was more Fear Factory than metalcore.

Finally got round to listening to the new Symphony X album.

...On the last song now, of the special 2 disc edition thing... and I'm really quite bored (hence posting on here even during the ritualistic "first listen")

I dunno. Maybe It's just cus I've no doubt drifted from the whole prog thing lately, but to me it's just been an album full of generic non-memorable choruses in between scale-walking riffs where each one pushes out the memory of how the previous riff went, altogether totalling a samey album full of songs which I will no doubt struggle to remember which is which even after multiple listens.

Not even sure whether to buy the new Dream Theater album when it comes out. Might just have to Spotify/Download it and see if it wow's me at all.
