In this interview, Devin talks about the current tour, the response to songs off of the Ki and Addicted albums, fitting other songs in the set list, touring plans, work on the 'Deconstruction' and 'Ghost' albums, why he doesn't ask people to buy his albums, doing special acoustic shows for the VIP ticket holders, the music on the next two albums, future plans after this 4-album series, and about 'too much information' through things like twitter.

Devin goes on to answer questions about the 8-CD box set, a DVD for the Tuska show, possibility of playing the Ziltoid album again, and the inspiration behind songs like 'Disruptr' and 'Trainfire'.

So, at about 3:00 into that interview Dev says that while in the shower the other day, he had this idea of possibly taking some of his older songs, and putting them together on an album, a "tour record," if you will. Maybe even re-recording some of the stuff to bring it up to date . That seems like a pretty good idea. The idea seems familiar, though. Hmmm.....

ppinkham wrote:You do have an extensive catalog, and I think it would be a good idea to have some sort of compilation available allowing those interested to "catch up" a bit on your history. Slap together your most popular and user-friendly stuff... Sneak in a few live versions of stuff to appease the already-fans. Live version of 'Kingdom," anyone? ;)

ppinkham wrote:For someone just getting turned on to Dev, looking at his back catalog can be extremely confusing. "I liked 'Addicted,' but that is the Devin Townsend Project. WTF is the Devin Townsend Band? Punky Bruster? What the hell is this Biotech/Ocean Machine thing? Is that something I would like? Wow, I read Devin didn't like 'Physicist.' Maybe I shouldn't bother with that?" If Devin put together what over the years he has learned to be "fan favourites" on one or two discs, it would be a confirmation from Dev saying "Yeah, all this shit is me," and would allow the casual fan to kind of "catch up."

In this thread: viewtopic.php?f=49&t=9691

So what does this mean? That I am awesome? Well, duh. But I think the real meaning behind this is much, much more interesting. In fact, it seems fairly obvious:

Dev thinks about me while in the shower.

Ok, there may be no relation to my posts and Dev's idea, but I had to be a smart-ass, 'cause that's how I roll.

The skullet wasn’t helping, man. I know people like it, or whatever. But dude — I am married. I have one option. If I wake up and my pillow is translucent because I have greasy, biohazard, snot-covered hair that smells like death, the chances of me actually getting some play are really slim.

Lol.

That stuff is awesome! Only glanced a couple of them so far but they seem like worth reading.

What I found interesting is that he basically explained why SYL doesn't exist anymore already in 1997! The same things he's talked about very recently as well, see:

"B: What do you think you want to tell the listeners through SYL and what through OCEAN MACHINE.

D: Both of them gets to the same thing in the end. But I consider SYL as music which can be created only during this particular age period. When I listen to OCEAN MACHINE, I feel I will be still doing this 20 from now. For other people, this music could be crap, but for me it is something very important, and that I will be able to listen back to with respect when I get old. I like SYL very much and I'm proud of it but it's not the music that I want to do when I hit 30 or 35 coz I think I won’t feel like that any more. The music comes mostly from the confusion of youth. Once you've passed through the period, you'll never be able to feel like that again. If possible, I want to keep the feeling which is put into OCEAN MACHINE, throughout my life."

I was lucky enough to conduct an interview with Dev the other day; http://anassortmentofreviews.blogspot.c ... nsend.html Some interesting stuff there. I'm a bit of a novice with this kind of thing, so I'm not really sure if I asked the right questions or what have you. Either way, it was good fun.

I appreciated it because you somehow found a way to strike the balance of allowing Dev to relay info that's been relayed a bajillion times for folks that might not be familiar, while delving into questions that haven't really been asked yet, AND keeping it timely.

Like I said before, well done :P
