I think they just got Infinity in stock couple of days ago, so there should be plenty.

Awesome, I'd love a coloured Infinity one. I'm hanging out for Ocean Machine.

gah, i knew they'd pull some stupid shit like that, especially with Synchestra being totally continuous. there's no way they'd be able to split sides properly without access to the masters — which they probably could've gotten, if they'd asked Dev.

And how actually is master tape better than the CD version while splitting the sides? There`s going to be silence anyway, when you`re changing the sides. Or am I missing something? :)

The problem isn't anything to do with master tapes. They just repeated the same thing twice.

It would be best if they just harshly ended the song like it ends on the CD and the next song isn't queued up

But you can always count on Back on Black to fuck up somewhere. They have history of doing it in the past. That is why they re-re-re-released most of their earlier vinyls after sound quality complaints and cover art fuck-ups. You can find threads regarding the issues on the Metal Archives forum.

I still am up in the air about the vinyls. I would love to support Devy but I just am tired of buying Back on Black and never knowing exactly what quality I am going to get. I have a few of their vinyls already (Darkthrone and Dimmu Borgir) with no problems but I guess if I bought more then I would find the problems. But word of mouth is good enough for me.

That e-mail regarding the master tracks doesn't help much either. Total bullshit. They just don't want to admit that they do only half the work they should be doing when releasing vinyl albums. A lot of listeners by vinyl for the higher quality of sound. Back on Black doesn't seem to give two shits about it.

Their prices are rather cheap when compared to others - ToneFloat, Night of The Vinyl Dead etc. The difference in quality must come there.

I purchased both Ki and AE. I am most certainly no authority, but my ears tell me they are both direct CD transfers. I am a bit disappointed, as I was thinking I would be hearing Dev's music in richer depth. Alas, it is not so. If Devin still has the pre-masters for everything, I would love to hear those transferred to vinyl. Until then, I cannot justify buying anymore of these records. At least they're pretty.

That's pretty much it, really. They're pretty and collectible. At least most of us realised pretty quickly that the quality wasn't going to be awesome, avoiding some sort of massive disappointment.

I would love it if Devin released 24-bit, 96KHz FLAC maybe just through his site as a pay to download thing. Hearing his stuff in that format would blow my mind.

Thanks for the updates, guys. I'm hoping they don't screw up Ocean Machine and Terria, but I'm not going to set any expectations now. I wish they'd involved Devin more directly in this project, a lot of aspects of this release seem very b-team. I will say that Ziltoid busting into the middle of the "Addicted" lyric sheet is actually hilarious and true to Ziltoid's character, but the botched side endings/beginnings is simply inexcusable, somebody is obviously asleep at the wheel at Back On Black. A respectable lab like Mobile Fidelity would never allow anything like that to be released.

24/96 FLAC bounced from the original session files would be great. I would re-purchase every Devin Townsend release on that format if I could. I was really excited when I first heard the news about the vinyl, but at this point I'm going to basically pretend it hasn't happened. The packaging does at least look nice though, and if you all you want is a cool collector's / display piece, go for it I guess.

Really that's all I would want it for too. I never listen to any of my vinyls they are really just for collectors purposes. I still stick to my CDs for the car and MP3s any other time.
