Saw Friends of the Universe Last Night. On the Golden Girls Scale (my ratings system 1-10 of how much I'd enjoy seeing them perform the Golden Girls theme) they ranked 5.

Styx and Foreigner in my hometown at the annual "Summer Celebration".

My buddy and I got there late because, well, we didn't really care about Foreigner. Or, at least I didn't. Much to my surprise we got there a bit earlier than anticipated, and they were quite good. The sound was clear, loud, and punchy. They had a different singer, who sounded just as good as Lou Gramm...and looked just like Alice Cooper. :) I quite enjoyed them.

Styx get better with age. They are all in their late 50's, look great, still sing insanely high, and have tons of energy. My dad works down there every year, and gets me free passes to whatever night I want to go. This is the third time Styx has been there, so I wasn't expecting to be blown away...but indeed I was. I think it was mostly because I didn't expect to enjoy myself that much. Nostalgia was in the air. :D

Fortarock 2010:

Textures
Ex Deo
Decapitated
Watain
Behemoth
Fear Factory
Killswitch Engage
Bullet For My Valentine

Things I missed out on:
Hail Of Bullets
Baroness
Kreator
Suicidal Tendencies

Textures and Decapitated went through some lineup changes, but it's hard to tell really. The new guys pull it off just the same :) Watain was ridiculously trve and kvlt, Behemoth was ridiculously awesome!! Fear Fattery sucked balls of course, Killswitche Engage was just to piss someone else off and Bullet For My Valentine... Well at least I didn't have to regret leaving a bit early ;)

I saw Alestorm a week or two ago in Melbourne. They were very tight live, good if you like that kind of synth driven power metal, the singer poured rum into the crowd and it got in my eyes so i couldn't see properly for a while, then he jumped off the stage and landed on me, hurt alot but it was a pretty freakin cool show. Before that Dev back in march, was the best gig I think I've been to.

Just came back from seeing And So I Watch You From Afar and Shining. Gig was free (train tickets weren't).

ASIWYFA were pretty cool, very energetic live band with some catchy tunes. The songs could do with a little more variation but I guess that's post-rock for you. They were still good though, tight as a 12-year-old, running around the stage and interacting with the audience.

Shining was the Norwegian band that I've grown to love after I heard Blackjazz. Most of the stuff they played was from that album (which is good because I don't really know their other work :P). It was strange trying to see the people try to bang or nod their heads or whatever they do, to the rhythm that wasn't really there and that was constantly changing. I was pretty much upfront so I don't know how the reception was further back (free festival, so very mixed audience and most people unfamiliar with the artist) but the people at the front (who clearly knew the songs) really enjoyed the performance, and the band seemed to appreciate that. Got a huge roar when they left the stage, they did play a really good show. I loved it, looking forward to seeing them again in October.

Macabre last night at The Corner Hotel in Richmond, with support from
Earth,
Depression,
Pod People,
Dreadnaught,
Cemetery Urn,
Internal Nightmare,
Embodied,
and Contrive.

Macabre put on excellent performance, though like some of the bands throughout the night, there wear gear and sound mixing issues. Didn't stop them from playing fast and brutal and getting the crowd manic. Seeing Vampire of Düsseldorf and Serial Killer played with as much (if not more) energy than their album recordings nearly made my head fly off. They also previewed a few songs from their new album, including a great rendition of Countess Bathory. Being at the front of the crowd, I also got a hand slap from the band as well - sweet. Definitely worth the wait.

Support acts were also great, though the bands that stood out for me most were Depression, Cemetery Urn and Internal Nightmare - great stuff.
