Doubt it'll happen - but it would be nice :P

If ye can hack out a draw against Italy you never know! You might get something out of the Paraguay game. It'll be an interesting tussle, hopefully!

These games are both really good. Really tight and every side getting chances... Shame Krasic couldn't just keep onside to put Serbia ahead. Surprised nobody's scored in the Ghana - Germany game, but it's been excellent entertainment so far!

Ghana are through!! Delighted! I was so hoping at least one African team would get through... They could well beat the USA and get to the Quarters as well.

And England are staring down the Germans. :D

Oh Landon Donovan, what have you done.

If I may borrow a quote from a German fan on the SkySports website:

The idiot Özil. Without his goal we would be facig the USA and then Uruguay or South Korea. Now it's England and then Argentina. That goal decreased our chances of reaching the semi-final by at least 50%.

I know they were running the risk of going out, but the guy has a good point. A draw would've been better! :P

My thoughts exactly. I'm glad Germany pulled it off, but they need to get themselves together and be less hesitant to cross, but I'm pulling for them. Not to mention the prospects of a match between Germany and Argentina. That'd be world class football. And I must say I was surprised to see a few moments of good form from Özil, who usually does less than dazzle--what a nice goal!

And may I just say: FUCK YES, USA! That was such a frustrating game/group! I know I'm late to the party--I had to work, so I've just watched today's games after having recorded them. Regardless, that puts them at the top, set to face Ghana. And that could go either way. :?

I hope they learn to finish better by Saturday...

Unlucky Italy. Played their hearts out at the end, bless, but Slovakia fully earned their spot.

that was quite a game! Very entertaining and it got really exciting in the end. I didn't really expect Italy to drop out that early. But I guess this is the world cup of surprises.

To quote a commentator:

Italy weren't good enough until the last 20 minutes of their last game. And they've paid for it.

Glad to see Slovakia beat Italy like that--a really sensational show.

Let's be honest though, Italy were robbed a bit there. That goal that was given offside at 2-1 was a perfectly good goal. The right leg of the defender was outstretched and it was pretty damn clear that Quagliarella was onside... Overall though they were rubbish. They're gonna need to go take a good long look at the side... Last place in a group as weak as that is just abysmal for the defending champions.

I dunno who to shout for between Japan and Denmark... Hmm...
