Talk about other artists here (even though they all rip off Meshuggah)

haven't really listened to it since the intense listening sessions when it came out and when I went to see them last February. Still trying decide if I like it or not. It's really hard to listen to it objectively. I suspect if it was some band I'd never heard of I would give it a much fairer listening. Or turn it off quite quickly hahaha.
They should have brought out another one about now really. A year on tour then blast out another album in the studio. I'm really not sure this goes far enough to restore the damage done in the last 20 years.

I have to agree on the last point. They keep going through this "album every X years" cycle and it's getting quite annoying. If they still feel like they've got it in them they should put new music out more often.

Well if you look at the mediocrity they've produced in the years it took to make St. Anger and Death Magnetic, maybe they should take 10 years and hope it'll be a bit better?

^ Are you kidding me? First they need to make some more money off Rock Band related things (perhaps Metallica's Favorite Country Songs) before even thinking about going into a studio. Once they do enter a studio they'll make sure to have a large camera crew with them to either make another documentary or perhaps a real-life soap. Halfway they'll get bored and do a tour playing only recycled material (maybe team up with Megadeth and Slayer and such again) and sell dvds and live albums from that. Then back into the studio, real-life soap seasons 2 & 3 and then perhaps they'll finish and release an album again, hopefully without awful production. In 2017.

Speaking of studio documentaries, i watched 'A year and a half in the life of...' again the other day. Right near the beginning (surprisingly) they are all sat around in teh studio for day one of the recording sessions on the Black album, and they are running through a song, and Bob Rock cuts in from the control room with some comment like "perhaps you could go to F# there?", and Hetfield momentarily freezes. You can almost hear his teeth grind together...
And I had one of those 'what if someone had shot Hitler in 1936' moments: what if Jaymz had just got up there and then and said "Fuck you! No-one fucks with my music. You're fired!", and stormed out. Lars gets on the phone to Flemming Rasmussen... the world would be an entirely different place

Quiet you.

I told you, I like them both equally. Gloria has a very Crematory feel about it, and as I love Crematory...I love this.
Back to Times of Splendor is excellent with regard to musicianship and structure though.

To me, the feel of Gloria is was quite "gimmicky" and it wore off quite quickly. Back To Times Of Splendor however, feels much more epic and has a more lasting quality to it. That's how I feel at least.

Take the vocals for example. They really stand out on BTTOS, that album makes me believe Vurtox is one of the best vocalists in metal. On Gloria however, most of the vocals are these deep, mumbled, almost spoken words. Which is really a shame when you have such a talented singer in the band!

Very true, and I'm not denying the awesomeness of BTTOS either. But as they're both very different albums, for me personally I can't choose a favourite.
