Talk about other artists here (even though they all rip off Meshuggah)

Mike Patton - Mondo Cane

On the way to becoming one of my favourite Patton albums.
It's not quite what I expected, very powerful and I love the sound of Orchestral drumming.

Other than that my ears are ringing to the pleasures of Firewater, Cop Shoot Cop/Red Expendables, Zombie Surf Camp, Rachmaninoff, Cypress Hill and MF Doom. When shuffle aint on of course.

I want to recant a bit of my negative assessment of "The Obsidian Conspiracy" that I'd made previously.

I was expecting the same evolutionary leaps with this album as the band had made since the self-titled album. Take that out of the equation, and this is album improves a great deal. Jeff Loomis, after touring a bit with Chris Broderick, seems to be on a tear to prove just who the best guitarist is in shred. That's not necessarily a bad thing, when his hands are just as capable of producing melodically interesting music as they do technically stunning sounds. The songs are involving, as Warrel does write compelling lyrics and sings them with much emotion. Overall, the album is growing on me. Still, I'd like a mind-blower before they stop making music as "Nevermore", as I feel that this is a growing concern.

Your Poison Thrown is the worst song I've ever heard from them. The whole "RISE, RISE, RISE" part is so overly cliche and annoying...Plus that song as a whole just isn't very appealing.

I've given it a few more listens, too, and I still don't think much of it. I know Loomis can play fast, and there are some cool riffs on the album, but the overall sound of it is one of suck. Also, if he really wanted to prove his technique, I think he should have done a couple solos that don't sound like lame copy-pastes of his old stuff. I thought the lyrics on the whole album were stupid to the point of irritation (and there's a hell of a lot of spoken word bullshit, too), and the vocal "hooks" that Warrel described prior to the album's leak sound weak and uninspired. No offense to the band or anyone who disagrees, but I think this album is mediocre at its best. Perhaps my hopes were too high, but I'm somewhat disappointed.

I just hope we don't have to wait another 5 years for the next awesome Nevermore album.

EDIT: Also, it seems like the drums got a lot less interesting on this album. :(

SynSUN - good stuff indeed.
I'm really diggin' the kinda Eddie Van Halen in a Video Game-esque vibe.
A nice alternative to Infected Mushroom, and a spot on description above.

If you guys are looking for an interesting Metal album check out some of Alamaailman Vasarats tunes. No guitars necessary.
They make Apocalyptica look very, very boring.

In Mourning

Both the Shrouded Divine and Monolith albums.

These guys seem to be relatively unknown for the quality of melodic death metal they play. If you're a fan of Opeth, no disappointment to be had if you're looking looking for something in a similar vein.
