The place to speak about Dev's current projects, and everything yet to come

I have asked CM Distro about the City set and so far have no answers.

I asked where it was pressed, how it was sourced among other things. Usually the info guy gets back within a day. It's been a week and still nothing. Anyone know anything about this? I'm not going to buy a fancy box if it's a cd transfer and is only being released for collectability.

And about Back on Black, recently I picked up my favourite Vader album Litany on LP. B.O.B. pressed it. The Gatefold is beautiful, the clear vinyl is exquisite, however, they didn't change anything in the mix with regards to the overbearing kick drum sound. This leads me to believe that it was sourced from either the cd or the glass master that they use in mass production. As great of an album as it is, the kick is nearly intolerable. It is extremely distracting and I cannot believe that given the chance, it would not be corrected.

My hopes for the Devin material being improvements over their cd counterparts are fading...

I don't have the impression that Devin is really involved in any new mixes/masters either. If he was I think we'd have heard something about that by now.

I know he stayed away from the re-releases of HAARHT and City, as well as the compilation of Chaos Years. He doesn't like revisiting old material as far as I know. He pours so much of his emotional state of mind into his albums, that whenever he'd have to remaster or whatever, it'll take him back to that mindset which he's usually not comfortable with. Or something like that, I think I read that about the time of the HAARHT rerelease.

I thought he did spend time with the Chaos Years... he definitely wrote a lot for the booklet!

I thought CM picked the songs that are on it, not Dev.

All the remasters say that Devin watched over them carefully.

Just got mine in the mail :D

It came with Aeonics by Samael instead of the City CD. The sleeve for the vinyl is too small, so the sides have ripped. The CD version seems to be the remaster, not sure about the vinyl. All the text seems to be copied from the booklet of the remaster. Even the "This edition:" part is exactly the same.

The pressing seems to be done by this company http://www.medialogistics.com/

Yikes. That seems rather unprofessional in Century Media's part or maybe Media Logistics is the one to blame.

Thanks to those here for the info.

I will save my money.

A giant FU to CM for not answering any questions about this release. It should be mandatory, like it used to be on CD's, to print the lineage on the product. All manufacturers of new vinyl should have to provide source information. I took CM's reluctance to do so as being an admission of guilt for transferring CD's to vinyl.

No matter how much I love Dev's music, I refuse to pay for sub-par vinyl.

Holy shit the price for the vinyls are expensive... US 35 bucks for one double vinyl. Thats insane. As much as I want some Devy vinyls might have to bow out on this one....

The vinyl box for city is pretty nice. The T-shirt is cool as my old City shirt dies recently so this is a timely replacement.

As for the vinyl itself, well, it does sound better than the CD (both the original and the "remaster") but not by much. There's more body and weight to the sound but improvements are minor. Frankly, I doubt City will ever sound good.

Luckily the album itself is amazing.
