Haha. You have no idea how happy I am to offer this help. Extremely stoked to see you in Auckland tomorrow. I happened to move over here from BC just in time it seems. :D

1. Addicted!
2. ZTO
3. By Your Command
4. Ziltoidia Attaxx
5. Ki
6. Hypergeek
7. Triumph
8. Kingdom
9. Deadhead
10. Life
11. Truth
12. Earth Day
13. Suicide
14. Gaia
15. Numbered!
16. Hyperdrive

Encore ideas:
Fake Punk
Bad Devil
Sunshine and Happiness

I do realize it's also a bit on the heavy/loud side, but I'm so stoked to see you play tomorrow I'm just in that kind of mood. I'm also aware of how close this is to the set you're going to play tomorrow. As I said, very stoked.

Personally, my idea of the encore is a chance to throw something in that doesn't really fit with the main set. I think that would free you up to do some less played solo stuff, some Punky Bruster, or even some SYL. While it may no longer be your focus anymore, I think it would be totally cool to hear some Strapping in a way that wouldn't necessarily require all of the 'Madman Devin Townsend' persona. As well it would definitely surprise the audience and mix things up a bit.

Also, trombone and keyboards in Bad Devil are awesome.

tl;dr: Chuck something different into the encore. There's a lot of stuff you've done with other projects that's still cool.

The Dev wrote:Yo folks!

So here's a request:

I've got so much music that I don't really have too much perspective on it. Some stuff we don't know, maybe the stuff that would be good to learn is some things I haven't considered. I tried to learn some heavier stuff, so we know that end of it now...

Taking into consideration what we currently know (The Aus set is what we know currently...) what would be a good 90 minute set? (2 hours is too long I think...)

Please if you want to, make a set list for us...keep in mind that the set currently is a bit over 2 hours, and it's not a ton of songs... for example, Color Your World is 10 minutes, Earth Day is 11, Deadhead is 10... so it adds up...

Please tell me what we should learn in your opinions! Thank you.

Ok I think I'm doing this right. First off let's look at the Aus set list shall we. The bolded songs could be cut.

addicted.
supercrush.
kingdom.
truth.
om. [full version]
deadhead.
ZTO
by your command
ziltoid attaxx

seventh wave.
life.
earth day.
numbered.
namaste.
colour your world.
the greys.
ki.
bend it like bender.

Now I assume that this will be for the American tour? If so then cut out the last setlist. That's a half hour right there. It should be a new tour with new songs I say. For one a lot of us have already heard them and two it will make that last tour seem that more special. I don't know how everyone else feels but cutting the old set seems to be the right thing to do. OM stays since you didn't even play it in Atlanta and I don't think anybody heard the full version.

You can also cut out ZTO and Ziltoidia Attaxx!!! since By Your Command is gone. Color Your World and the Greys more than make up for it and After seeing the youtube of the Greys you absolutely have to do that.

For new songs:
Life Is All Dynamics
Sit In The Mountain
Depth Charge
These 3 seem to be fan favorites after reading the lists and are fairly short. But really just surprise me. Coast would be good as well as Pixillate. Anything will do really and having to pick and choose is like pulling teeth.

But didn't Dev say that the reason for that many Ziltoid songs was to simply rehearse for the exclusive Finland gig?

Based on what I saw in Perth last night (awesome gig despite the sound issues by the way) here's my set list:

1. Addicted!

2. Random Analysis

3. War

4. Kingdom

5. Namaste

6. Storm

7. Triumph

8. Seventh Wave (Mind-blowing live, one of the highlights for me)

9. Life (Again a staple that should be in every Dev set list)

10. Earth Day (Surprised by how much I got into this live. Always liked it but wouldn't have called it a favourite)

11. Disruptr

12. Nobody's Here

13. Ki (Amazing live. Dev solo. Really gained a new appreciation for the song)

ENCORE:

14. ZTO

15. By Your Command

16. Ziltodia Attaxx!!

17. Bend It Like Bender!

I think the Ziltoid stuff would make a really cool and fun encore.

Anyway that's my 2c. Many other songs I would like to include but meh.

While I’m here I’d just like to thank you for the awesome show in Perth, Dev.
You thanked us many times for the support - you're very welcome!
The pleasure was all ours! :D

Wow, most of you really pay attention to the details like a "!" at the end of every Addicted song

I suggest these (amongst the obvious ones):

EZ$$ (Punky Brüster)
Vampira
Processionnal (Christeen EP),.... well, the "STAAAAAR CHIIIILD RIIIIISE" part at least
Stagnant
Canada

SYL is "probably" not allowed but to make setlist dream complete:
Exciter (as heard on Heavy as a really heavy thing)
Far beyond metal

oh and this one:
In my dreams with you (from the Dev & Steve Vai Project)

Phase wrote:Not to be "That guy", but a few of the setlists you guys have suggested would require constantly switching guitars, sometimes every other song. I know that doesn't take a huge amount of time, but getting three musicians to change instrument, plug it in, check it is tuned correctly, then get ready to play. It can slow a set down. This could just be me going "OMGZ" about it, though...

Just give Dev one of those newfangled self-tuning robot guitars. Or, get someone to make him a signature one with all his usual tunings pre-programmed. Or, replace all members of the band with actual robots.

I'm pleased to see Sit in the Mountain making its way onto a good number of these lists. I always found that to be a killer track that can hold its own amongst the tracks on Devin's main releases. To see it get the live treatment would be a heart-warming experience.

If I were trying to make a 90 minute set with your catalogue, I would split it into 30ish minute blobs. Since you want to do a 90 minute show, ~30 minutes of new stuff, ~30 minutes of ziltoid stuff, and then ~30 minutes of choice older songs. I wouldn't necessarily group it like that, but that would be the selection process. With as many 10 minute songs as you have, it won't take long to fill a set list. I like a pleasing mix of old and new when I see my favorite bands. I liked the selections for your 30 minute show you just toured. It had the old, and it had the new, and it was placed together nicely.

I'm too lazy to actually put up an entire setlist, but +1 to the Sit in the Mountain suggestions...I finally got around to getting the Christeen EP and it's become one of my favorite songs. Would make a great unexpected encore.

Maybe not the greatest, but certainly a goodun, and I think the opener/closers are definite winners!

i love almost (okay not almost) everything devy's done... so i cant think what songs to remove.

But Irish maiden or Jupiter I'd love to hear live.

Canada... Nobody's Here

The Guitar medley; Away/Deep peace was absolutely brilliant and i wish i saw that live... or something along those lines.

so many projects/solo albums.. all so individual... its soo hard!!

Never remove Truth/OM... it is greatness.

I was impressed with your song choices for the aust tour.. definately kept me entertained.. but oh please dont shorten the set...its a great reputaion to be known by music fans as a band that does 2 hour sets.... WE LOVE IT!!! :P

This is my current dream set list.

NPB being the obligatory encore after the stunning Death of Music.

It's just under 2 hours but I'd dig seeing that live. (Scotland solo headline date please)
