Decided it was time I fully 'discovered' the Mars Volta. Bought their latest album the other day, having a little trouble getting into it fully. Has some good moments, but I'm finding it a little too quirky for it's own good.

Nice, my favorite black metal song! The solo is so simple yet so good regardless. Just pure, torturous evil in that track like only Quorthon knew how to do it.




As for me, Listening to the album Grace by Jeff Buckley. Not very metal, but oh so good.

Maybe you should have gotten a different album of theirs. From what I've heard, Octahedron is quite a step from what they usually do, more mellow and less freaky.

I've not heard much from them except The Bedlam In Goliath but I do love that record.

I second Biert's comments, however De-Loused in the Comatorium is my absolute favourite record of theirs - give it a listen if you fancy it, but when you do, identify the emotion they're putting out and sort of.. align yourself to it. It's weird music, but it shouldn't be alien.
