Oh right, everyone hates them around here. Is it the John Petrucci complex: Women want him, men want to be him, you will never be as good as him... so what's left?

Hate on him? :(

Alright then.

I think most men just want someone to come along and smash his ego so he can finally realize he's not as great a guitarist as he thinks he is.

I think most men don't give a piss. And technically he is great guitarist, rest is matter of taste.

Nono, I meant the setlist. Don't they play anything from ToT other than In the Name of God anymoar? :( I want to see This Dying Soul and Honor Thy Father. Favourite songs yo, recognize.

Oh man, sorry - that was such an ass_hole post, I wrote it when I was in a really bad mood. Instead of reading your poast clearly, I just kinda assumed it was DT insult. Don't know why :(
Yeah, it was kind of a strange setlist - I thought it would be more "Silver Linings," but it was a mix of everything. I was hoping for New Millennium, but nope.

@ Alucard: Awww he seems like a pretty humble guy to me - based on DVD's and youtube footage, IMO he comes off as kind of a goober :D A nerdy, but very talented goober. That's just my opinion though.

Yes, for shame. For shame. Those are my two favorites as well. Kevin Moore OWNED - oh well. Maybe next time. 6:00 plz!!

It doesnt matter. He still acts like he is better than everyone else. Just because he can play fast and complicated stuff much more clean than a lot of people wish they ever could. He is by far a better guitar player than I am, I'll be the first to admit when someone is a better player than I am.

Wow, that does sound like a really boring set. :zzzz: I used to listen to the band a lot back in the day, and was considering catching this current tour, but looking at this I think I'll rather save my money... :|

no its more that their music is over technical and stale. through their over technicality they alienate most listeners as they try to connect with them through attempting to create deeply emotional songs. also they are slaves to their record label as once they were signed to roadrunner they sounded a hell of a lot like an overly technical Metallica tribute band. they use a music studio to the point where everything is too perfect in the recording and mixing that it basically destroys any chance of nuance and spontaneous feeling. their lyrics are extremely cliched, their riffs are in a few cases stolen from far more impressive bands but they turn the riff into a technical masturbation (e.g. a song on Octavarium disturbingly sounds like Stockholm Syndrome by Muse).

Seacrest out...

I strongly agree on the production. Systematic Chaos and Black Clouds sound WAY too digital and overprocessed. I've called myself a big DT fan for more than 2 years now but I'm not sure anymore... Seeing we're on topic about DT. I wonder what they'd sound like with a rhythm guitarist.

I must admit I lost contact with them some time ago. Do they have massive BEHOLD JOHN PETRUCCI THE BEST FUCKING GUITARIST IN THE UNIVERSE banner on every gig now, or what? Does he have to issue dislaimer there-possibly-are-betters-musicians-than-me everytime he enters the stage?

I had similiar impression about him as DsD after seeing few studio/backstage clips.
