I assume your going for a band type thing. xD

lol sweet! Yeah dude, there will be annoying people, promise. Isn't that always how it goes  What was your class like? Were there placement auditions, anything like that? This class is a rock, blues and *barf* R&B performance class. I dunno, maybe I shouldn't hate on R&B, it could be worse.

Aye, we all had auditions to get in, had to show off how good we are type of thing. Sadly, after taht, it was a little more free form. It ended up with bands being made of friends rather than either mixing the talent up so that everyone got some of the best. To be honest, if you keep your playing solid and people see you as being a good player, you won't have to worry too much.

BE WARNED. There will be (from my experience) one drummer, guitarist or singer or whatever, who super serious can't play at all, and is yet somehow still on the damn course. You may have to get very stern with them. I secretly believe they are an actor who the teachers hire to test your patience.

For sure. Spot on - solid is key, it's the corner stone of being a good bass player! :D Ya know, (I hope this doesn't come off as egotistical) but playing a lot of music in odd meters, or music with more complicated and busier bass lines has really helped my ability to stay on time, and well...stay solid* - not to sound like a douchebag or anything. But know this Hum-mons, I am no Geddy Lee - oh man..

It's always the people who talk the most that have the least to offer isn't it? :? ew free-form? As in a more jamm-ish setting? Don't know about you, but I live for structure dude. I guess the jam style has it's place, but ... eh, it's not my strength.
Anyways Phase, cool response - over all did you like the class - did you do well?

* I will never say "In the pocket!" *shudder* I hate that phrase

I mean more, the teacher didn't choose who was in which group. We did. Awful idea. We had to write out own songs, so obviously there was some jamming, but I like that. You can usually tell in one session of just tootling around how well you click with other players.

But! I mostly had fun. The people were mostly good, I mostly learnt new things, realised weaknesses... The kind of stuff I'd want to learn. xD And yeah! I did pretty well, I think. I got the equivalent of an A and two Cs, or Two Bs and a C (depending on how the Uni I go to split the points.) Mostly, I think I did a little better than other people in my class, but not hugely, and some did more than me. SO hurray. ^-^

I like how Dev straight up told half this forum they creeped him out in the "Do we know Dev too well" thread. Fucking made me laugh so hard.

Good for you man - I guess it's kind of cool writing your own songs, but you can't turn on creativity like a faucet ya know?
Sometimes you write something down that you think is brilliant, and some days, it's just not clicking... writer's block. Anyways, Sounds good enough.
:drink:
Just for the sake of it, all this week, I'm going over as much theory and groove as I can! lol It's really not something to get worked up about as the teacher said - but I don't want to be put into the noob group because I botched an audition e.g my fingers were too sweaty, fingers floppy, brain fart... ugh

Anyways, minor pentatonic, blues scale, chord progressions, modes, 12 bar blues -as unexciting as they are to study- are a bassist's best friend in a blues, rock and R&B class! :D
Here's to you winning in class and me hopefully not sucking! :drink:

I went on a music hunt last night (in other words, downloading). Got some Periphery/Bulb, Necrophobic's latest, Fear Factory, Hypocrisy's re-released Catch 22 and so on.

Now the awesome part. Frost* and Anaal Nathrakh's latest are awesome. Haven't found new music since Mastodon. Black Light Machine (new favourite song) and More of Fire than Blood win at winning.

I think this is a beautiful beautiful bass.

Maybe if I get my hands on $4000 sometime soon :|

Seriously though, I love the bass. Usually not a huge fan of the unfinished, natural look - I love me some finish - but this one is an exception. I like the look of the top veneer/body wood underneath look - kinda like Wals have:

I got my offer for my course- I'm doing Primary School Teaching in Mary Immaculate College, Limerick (also known as "stab city"; lucky for me). I'm starting on September 7th and I'm so unbelievably excited. Having been out of academia for an entire year, I'm beginning to feel so brain-dead. I read all the time and I'm still as intuitive as ever, but the prospect of learning something useful which I'm interested in is actually unbelievable.

Talking to people who are doing the same course, it sounds like there's so much hands-on stuff. You get teaching practise throughout each year at all different levels, they examine your ability to plan lessons, your knowledge of how to interact with kids, your ability to apply your own interests to the subjects you teach. You have to assess your own ability to teach (by filming yourself "teaching" your peers) and pinpoint your strengths and weaknesses and how to address them. Along with various other things, it just sounds like the perfect course for me which with any luck will result in the perfect job for me. Otherwise I'll just do a Masters in Intellectual Disability or something, but I don't think that'll be necessary because I already have two definite part-time placements when I get out of college. Life is quite alright!

I'm going to miss my home and Leechy, but I seriously need a brain massage.

I like how cheapest guitar I bought from them was absolutely perfect, yet three times the price super-strat I bought next was fucked up in numerous regards (I bought one, then replaced it for another - faulty as well). Hope they're keeping the good quality now, because artist roster and look of their guitars are great.

So you replaced the really great cheaper one with another more expensive Mayones, yes? What was wrong with the super-strat?
It's funny how stuff works out that way. In a slightly different situation -my fretless bass is a Fender made in Mexico, and it's fantastic, as good as the American-made ones; and a lot of off-shore instruments are sometimes not as reliable. Go figure.

Did you ever get a decent guitar? :(
I have a question for you - it seems as though it would be easy enough to get an answer, but I'm having a hard time so far  how much do Mayones basses -or your guitars- cost, a rough guess? I could send a query, but I'd rather just ask around since I don't have the money for one at all right now. I can convert the price on an internets-converter to USD. Anyways, love the Slogan - what do you think of it?
I just hope the shipping price wouldn't push the cost up another $100-or-more which is a good possibility :|

Sorry about all the questions!
