It would be cool if Dev included these in like a special edition or box set deal.

But also it's weird giving out the presets for your amps and sound out to people to use.

On the other hand it makes it easier for people to do cover, but then on the OTHER other hand it creates less unique covers.

It seems I'm at n impass with myself.

But yea, I dunno if Dev has ever shared his amp settings. Well we shall see then!

oh, and if you want to try and find them yourself, look for his gear explanation video on you tube to try and get into his mindset on what he likes, etc. I dunno if it's out dated, but thats where I would start!

I've tried to make one, but I know bugger all about equipment/amps so it's not very good. I'd be interested to hear if anyone more knowledgable has managed to come up with something decent.

It doesn't make much sense to release stuff like that, because even if you had the same gear and settings it wouldn't sound the same, as everybody plays with a different touch. And it's much more interesting to create your own version of the sound :) He uses so many different sounds, anyway, so I'm not sure which one you want.

Haven't personally tried to recreate a Devinish sound, but I guess the key is to use a high-gain amp (5150) with lots of compression and delay.

It really would make no sense putting the actual settings as there is additional tweaking and eq'ing afterwards.

I'll have a go, at the weekend, not sure how good it'll be.

EMG's have a lot to do with erm Pre Ki sound but I've got an 89 split coil humbucker and two SA's. I'll base it on the three signal paths Devin describes in his devlab kit demo dvd.

I've been using the CAT distortion with the plexi a lot.

Ok, it seems that i wasn't very clear about it. I don't want to sound like him to copy his style or something, i know is pointless try ti "steal" Townsend's style. I'm just asking about that dealys distortions that aren't so common, like in the "truth" intro. Just that, i don't wan't to steal nothing, calm down people.

And thanks for the help i'll try to do something 'bout it!

not entirely true. I heard the man say something on this forum that he has gotten away from compression and eqing after the fact and messed with more mic positioning and levels.

But your still right, as obviously a lot of his recording do have EQ etc (probably most if not all of the strapping ablums). Either way it's still cool to have to mess with.

Also Ki was done with actual amps being recorded as far as I could piece together from the info on this forum. So it would be impossible to get any of the sounds from it to something like guitar rig 3 (although you could probably get close)

Mushroom, I don't think anyone is accusing you of stealing, we're just saying it's much more fun to find a sound by yourself especially if you want to play the mans work in a cover (to post on the forums or what not). It makes it more interesting. If you want, give me a PM and I can help you with some tone stuff to get you off on your experiments!

Stealing sounds isn't wrong at all. :) If it was possible to steal the guitar sound off, say, Slaughter of the Soul, you bet I'd do it and try to do something cool. :D It's just that it's impossible to get the same sound, even with the same gear. In fact, more important than having the same gear is knowing how to use it. So that's why instead of handing you (or someone) a preset to give a Devinish sound it's much more valueable and productive to analyse the qualities of the sound that you want and then try to get those qualities with the gear/software you have.

And yeah, all the albums (except maybe Ziltoid) are recorded amps, but that's not so important as you can get essentially the same results with digital modeling nowadays (there are better choices than Guitar Rig, but that one's maybe the easiest to use).

Yeah well sorry if i miss the meaning of what were you really sayin', i'm just an asshole.
My question was, in concrete, if someone found a delay distorsion similar than the thruth intro, that has some kind of delay but not very common. I tried to do it followin the indications of the Great Average Guitar video but it didn't work out, i'll still triying. Thanks for the help to anyone and sorry 'bout the missunderstood.

I do have a Guitar Rig 3 setting I call Dev but I;m not sharing. Actually look under FX Oxygen and adjust distortion to yuor liking and you'll see what I mean.

I have a shitload of Devy presets for Line 6 Gearbox/Podfarm. I've got like 4 or 5 for SYL stuff, two for Ocean Machine, one for Accelerated Evolution and at least 2 for Ziltoid.

I think I read somewhere about Ziltoid being done all on Line6 modeling. Is that accurate?

It was done using predominantly the Treadplate setting on the POD XT Live and a pre-amp. Dev wrote it somewhere in one of threads on this forum.

There's 3 Treadplate settings  Wonder which one he used?

Either way, I'm particularly fond of my AE setting. Its pretty damn close to the real thing.

I'd like to see some presets posted. I got one that's alright, but there's still something off about it that doesn't sound like Dev.
