I dont really care if some of their songs are "showing off that they can play"? - its awesome to see live.
(Plus i don't agree, i think they're writing fine songs)
What about this big Tech-Death popularity wave thats coming about? Suddenly everybody seems to be falling in love with it - and only few bands can pull it off
It bores me. You could say exactly the same about them -"Stop showing off you can play a superfast sweep one second, and then the next a chugging headbangy riff, and then the next some dissonant crazy panning weirdness - all in a time signature of 23/32!!!!"
(Over exagerrated obviously - I do have more respect for them than it may seem)
Sure some of the ideas they come up with are good - the occasional riff that is unique, inventive and executed well, but there are too many that seem to just be "tech" for the sake of it.
I just find it so much easier to write an Overtech-Death song than a song that can hold a certain mood throughout despite changes in the song. You can just open up Guitar Pro and go crazy, making one weird idea after the next, maybe bringing back a riff from earlier on every now and again...
I dunno, im crap at writing out arguments![]()
Plus im not really aiming this at anyone, because i dont even know if you agree with all i just said, yet still dont really like DT.
Ne'ermind, ignore me

Check out Within the Ruins and Veil of Maya for good techy stuff that just sounds different than everyone else.
