Talk about whatever you want to here, but stay correct

I just discovered the band Protest The Hero, my friend recommended them to me tonight...and I must say I'm impressed. It's like a heavier version of Fall of Troy...that is the only way to describe them, but their style is very different than FoT at the same time. Especially in their song structure.

When it comes to Opeth, there's the fanbase that worship the early more darker albums and who say everything they've made after MAYH is total poo. Whatever. The reason most people (including myself) don't like Ghost Reveries that much is because the production is quite crap compared to the others, too heavy on the synth and all that. I did give GR a full listen a few days ago and I still think the songs are awesome. Watershed went sky high above my expectations and I think maybe it even tops Blackwater Park on mah favourites list. And so on.

I like GR right because of that dense, keyboard heavy arrangements, generally I like their post-wilsonish stuff most - earlier stuff is more rough and metaley, and I don't like metalley metal, to be honest. My metal should be quite far from classic metal, otherwise I consider it teh suck.

I don't have Watershed yet, possibly because I've seen Burden on teh tube at it kinda put me off. Well, there's gig in Warsaw in three weeks, I'll check it and maybe will be motivated more to buy :)

Happy Birthday, Stoney!

First of all: I do like Opeth.

But I have reasons not to like Ghost Reveries, I've listened to it plenty to be able to form a proper judgement. Production is crap, guitars sound way too metalcorish for Opeth, songwriting is average, balance is off, growly vocals are too monotonous. Add it up and you get an Opeth-unworthy album.

I've listened to Watershed a bunch of times too, and I felt... Nothing. Got it in the mail together with Textures' Silhouettes and Bloodbath's The Wacken Carnage. First put on Watershed, when it finished put on Silhouettes, listened to that 5 times. Then 3 times Bloodbath. Then I thought "Hmm I just listened to the new Opeth... didn't I?" Then put on Silhouettes again.
It just didn't do anything for me. Only thing that 'stuck' was the outro to Burden because it's out of tune and I hate it. I'm not sure what it is, but the album lacks something in my experience. Maybe it's the atmosphere, which I always regarded as Opeth's strongest point.

I think you have error in your calculations, probably somewhere between perfectly scientificably measurable indicators like "guitar metalcoreness" or "songwriting goodness".

Fortunately, Completely Objective Labs hired by me measured all required parameters and issued a certificate that guitars aren't metalcore at all, songwriting is ace and balance is just right.

Oh, and happy birthsday djskrimp!

Well, the album is named Watershed for a reason...
Some will like it, some won't.
The whole "You can't have an opinion like that" bash is getting veeeeeery tiresome

So moving on from the opinion bashing then:

Do you guys dream in colour? :D

Apperently a lot of people do not. Seems strange to be but who knows?

But then the other day I had a dream which just consisted of swirling colours and shapes... :P

I dream the most coloful dreams that ever dreamed a dream.
Also, have any of you had a dream in which you were hanging out with a girl you're fond of, then when you went to hug her everything turned into House, and the dream didn't even end right then?
Apperently a lot of people do not. Seems strange to be but who knows?
Also he did not appreciate the hug.

I believe the b&w dreaming thing is just a myth. As far as I'm aware everyone dreams in 'normal vision.'
Also there's a dream thread around here someplace. :P

I thought it was a myth too, which is why I asked.

ANd oh yeah, there was a dream thread wasn't there? I just thought of it as randomness. :P

Actually I was making fun of my own House addiction but yeah that works, any weird examples? Oh and I think my mind hates me dreaming about her. Another time we were waiting in line for a movie, I went to hug her, then Kratos came in on a fucking flaming chariot and killed everyone.

haha sorry I should of picked up on that :P Brain is not engaged! :P

And, maybe it's not your dreams hating you but yourself :P It coems across like you're err... 'slaugherting' your own chances.

Even if it is via strange characters. :P Dreams manifest themselves in strange ways.
It could also just be one of those weird ones which happens for no reason, but if it happens most of the time when you dream of her, perhaps there's a corrlation?
