Talk about other artists here (even though they all rip off Meshuggah)

Metallica at Manchester Arena couple of nights ago - they played in the round so those of us with standing tickets got to see them mega-close-up - was about 2 metres from Kirk and James when they were on my side of the stage - couldn't see anything at all when they were on the other side though - but heyho, that seemed a reasonable tradeoff.

Great gig - they really looked like they were enjoying themselves. Biggest surprise was how much more sense the Death Magnetic songs made, hearing them in a live context. First time I've seen them since 1993. Call me old-fashioned, or perhaps just old, but I still get a real blast from singing along to Seek and destroy with 20,000 people. Specially when i'm right at the front, hahahaha.

Machine Head supporting - sound was so bad for them that it was literally impossible to tell what songs they were playing, other than Davidian, and that only because of the chorus breakdown - otherwise just a wall of muddy bass frequencies. Quite surreal actually. i was standing right in front of Phil Demmel while he took a solo (stage was only about 5 foot high) and could see every note he was playing but couldn't hear a single one.

I forgot where I heard about this... (perhaps it was on here that I read about it)

but I've read a couple articles that Progressive Nation 2008 was such a success, that Dream Theater are going to do a Prog. Nation 2009 tour in North America, Canada... and I can't remember where else. Sorry if I'm saying something you already know about...

but the point of this post is that if it happens and comes to San Francisco, I'M SO THERE! Dream Theater plus Zappa Plays Zappa - cool! I don't think there will be any Opeth this year though  They ruled last year. Shucks.

p.s. Sounds awesome BillyR!!

and FFLinchpin, how was the concert?

Last sunday I went to Nightwish. It was fucking awesome, probably the best gig I've seen in my life so far. Lots of good songs, lots of fireworks, fifteen minutes more music than last time I saw them and the girl selling orange juice was just miraculously beautiful... She doubled the quality of that night, which definitely is a night to remember.

I saw Opeth last wednesday, and it was simply perfect! Not only was the show itself good, but the whole arrangement:
In Oslo, venues opens at 6 pm, audience wait an hour or two, then the warm-ups enter the stage, and then the audience wait even more. THEN, at 10 pm, the band is supposed to show up, but they let you wait for another 30 minutes or so.
Here, in Trondheim, they just let people in at no spesific time, and 9:55 pm I entered the venue, got a good place by the stage and the first band memeber came out on stage on time. Now that's more like it!

Haha I posted about the Opeth concerts everywhere but in this thread. Now I can't be arsed. Though I really hate myself for not filming more, the new mobile is awesome. Got 22 seconds of Closure and a few photos.

I saw Opeth (+ Entombed) in Oulu a few weeks ago and it was awesome. Åkerfeldt was in good mood as usually and told us about some Finnish death metal band in early 90's that had taped their demo on Hello Kitty -cassette :D Godhead's Lament and Credence were the greatest<3

IRON
FUCKING
MAIDEN!

i know it's a totally cliché band, but it was a "remake" of their '85 tour, which seeing live was my DREAM since i'm a wee kid!
and they were fucking ace. Friend of mine cried his eyeballs out

Yeah exactly.

I know like 3 songs of theirs, and neither is to be taken serious (Gay Bar, Danger Danger, Naked Pictures Of Your Mother) so I expected them to be a bunch of goofballs starting a fucking party on stage. Turns out they just stand there and play their songs, some of them with a funny haircut or sunglasses.

Don't get me wrong, they played well. Just not the show I was expecting.

saw The Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Group last night, pretty cool show
they played alot of stuff from Omar's self titled album, wich makes sense since that one was written and recorded in Amsterdam.
I had a great time, but at some points the improv/jam parts were a bit to long
