Talk about whatever you want to here, but stay correct

It depends entirely on how you define your system, so there's no substance to that point. Often time is considered the first dimension. It's completely arbitrary.

Regardless, dimensions are not places, so it wouldn't be "inside" a volcano. Unless, of course, you're talking about a four dimensional volcano. Which you would have difficulty recognizing, since your brain is wired to deal with only the information of three.

Physicists miss out on these little pseudo-sci-fi dreams, I guess...

Alright, so I have a question regarding outer space. If I were to somehow leave the earth's atmosphere and enter outer space, what would I see? Would I be able to see the sun, other planets, distant stars, and stuff like that, or would I just see the earth and blackness? I can't really find a straight answer online.

First off you would want to definitely NOT look at the sun...there is nothing protecting you from it in outer space, thats what our ozone and atmosphere does.

You would be able to see whatever is in the direction you look, obviously. Other planets on the other hand would probably resemble "stars" you see in the night sky because of the immense distance between Earth and their general location.

The reason I quoted stars is because some people think everything you see in the night sky are just "stars" when in fact there are hundreds of solar systems you're seeing as well as stars and even other galaxies. My friend, who is studying Astrophysics in college, told me he got to see the Andromeda galaxy through a telescope at his college and was blown away by it.

Just take that into perspective, when you look at the night sky, you could be looking at another galaxy that just resembles a "star" because of its great distance away...

I always found the thought of looking at stars is looking back into time quite cool. Because of the amount of time the light from the stars/galaxies/planets etc, takes to reach us.

Sorry thats not really an answer. I'm afraid I do not know what space looks like. :P

Yeah it's pretty neat...The very star you're looking at could be dead and gone already.

Space explained in a series of science fiction quotes:

'Space. The final frontier.'

'My God, it's full of stars'

'You may think it's a long way down to the chemists, but that's just peanuts compared to space' (OK, that may not be an exact quote, I'm doing it from memory)

'Space...your basic space colour....is black' (OK, also from memory)

Which just goes to show that I've spent far too much time watching TV.

I suspect you've already spent far too much time staring at the sun, Nathan.

Yes of course! Don't you see?!? To be able to look directly to the sun for hours is most vital for humans to prevail in the brutal world of natural selection!

So what you're saying is, Nathan is the most advanced human being alive.

Would you excuse me for a moment?
