I've heard my brother play fade to black at least 10 times more than I've heard metallica do it. Then again, he can now play the solo about 3 times as fast and behind his head.

Like I said though, 'when you're at that stage'. You quickly progress beyond it, and after a few songs, they are pretty boring to learn.

Hmmm..
Learn some Michael Angelo :)

I'm also mighty proud of myself because I tuned my acoustic guitar to open C and almost learned Hide Nowhere, yeah

One of my favorites to play acoustically (I barely play electric other than in band rehearsals) is The Silent Man by Dream Theater. It has some interesting chords and the solo isn't that hard either, plus it's an actual song. :P If you're into playing and singing at the same time this one's also decent for that.

I'm currently learning some Opeth songs because a friend of mine has a Best Of Opeth tabbook and was friendly enough to give me some scans. Closure is nice to play, currently studying The Drapery Falls and Bleak. And one of my own songs which turned into some sort of finger exercise because it's pretty intense to learn (downside of writing something in Guitar Pro I guess). Stupid cramps.
