hello,
i need your help! please...
origionally i'm an guitarist, but due some kind of wierd idea i started to play bass in 2 bands now...
i don't have that much experience with basses and the playing, so i need a bit help when it comes to technique thingies.
i want to play with fingers but i don't know how... should i "pick" the strings like an acoustic guitar or should i try an different technique? i've seen people kind of pushes the strings down with the fingers. how can i do this the "right-way" or isn't there any thing i am able to make false?

so second thing..
i want to buy a bass, i ordered the "ltd-104f"? to my local store to tryout and compare to others. i found an strange "grassroots"? bass with such great looking top like bare wood or something (sorry can't explain better in english)
and thought (because it's the same price as the other) it could be an good alternative option to the original-wanted-bass...

or do you have other ?suggestions?

greetings
Lenny from germany ;)
sorry again for my bad-bad-bad english hopefully you could understand it ^^

please answer xD
thx
bye

oh PS:
i play metal, if that helps...

I'm former guitarist and play bass on a band now.

Well, I use a pick. You could try pick the first few months and then when you gradually grow better to pick, you start to use your fingers here and there.

For example, we have a very dynamic song where we rock out with our socks out in the verse and the chorus, but we have a doomy middlesection where I pick with my fingers...

The second question: Try the Fender Jazz Marcus Miller Signature Series. Sounds friggin' great!
Hope my answer(s) helped a little...

fingers...I guess I kind of pluck like you would a guitar, but there are tonnes of different finger and pick techniques and the more you can master the better....and you're own personal preferred way of playing will emerge

Entry level basses..I'm not that up on entry level basses these days, and not 100% sure on your budget but you;ll get a lot for your money from Yamaha, Fender Mexican series, Musicman SUB, Peavey..and a tonne of others. My advice is try out as many as you can and the one that sounds and feels right to you is the one to go for

You've made the right decision in bass ;)

just use a pick for the bass if you feel uncomfortable with your fingers. i have to use a pick coz i have to pick fast. good luck with the bass mate. i find it a more exiting instrument than the guitar simply coz i love low end :)
