Oddly enough I started out musical life as a bassist before I progressed on to other stringed instruments

I agree though, many of my friends have their doubts because of the whole nu-metal thing (even myself had the very same doubts in the beginning, but I grew up )

I don't why anyone shouldn't give an extra string a go, if anything I think it improves you as a player because it expands your repetoire.

I don't know the fuzz about nu-metal. I think there were some great riffs written back in the days by bands like Disturbed, Adema, etc. Anyway, this topic is not the place for this discussion.
When I was studying music, most guitarplayers said they found it 'too difficult' to play on a 7-string, which is total bullcrap. The only reason people don't want to play on a 7-string is because they associate it with metal. This is logical ofcourse, because most 7strings are used for metal these days, but people tend to forget that 7 and 8 strings even have been used in world music and jazz longer than metal even exists.

Agreed, there should be another topic about nu-metal and seven strings.

Seven strings aren't difficult to play anyway, you just have the extra string to worry about muting which you get used to.

And it is also true that these instruments have been used by other forms of musician rather than the typical metal musician for longer than most can remember. I remember reading somewhere that the seven and eight string guitar were originally from Russia and were used as far back as the late 1800's!

Anyway this is slightly off topic, I think I'll have to start an opinions topic surrounding the stigma of instruments with a few extra strings

So yeah, I think we should ask Dev properly about the status of this fabled eight string rather than ask whether or not he actually has one yet.

Because i'm far too poor to afford an 8 string i took one of my nice 7 strings and strung it like one! (listen to my song Black Hole on my soundclick for a taste of it)

Personally i think extended range guitars are one of the greatest things to happen to music. People disregard the possibilities these guitars present by saying "it's too low" or "6 strings is enough" I say fuck that! 6 strings is NOT enough!

People need to re-educated musically in my opinion when it comes to surplus stringed instruments.

8 strings are affordable these days thanks to halo guitars. I am a lefty and had a hell of a time trying to locate a 7 string with tremolo. Halo guitars now offers any model in 6,7,8,9 or 10 strings righty or lefty and trem available for righty or lefty.

26,5 inches, for 27 frets.

It seems like quite a nice guitar but the headstock kind of kills it for me I'm afraid.

that seems a little short for an 8 string, especially for an octave below normal guitar and considering bass guitars are usually at least 30 inch

I did felt the same way at first, but stretching my whole hand to make 6, 7 and even sometimes 8 string chords is rather painful. Therefore, it wasn't a bad idea to keep it at 26.5. I modified my technique to approach these. The wood fixes the tone, it's Amaranth, also called Purpleheart if I am not mistaken. Even the low E string sounds like a killer without amplification!

I don't have any sound clips yet. However, I will try to make some fun amateur videos eventually, when I get some time off from university.
