So i want to create some music but im not sure what software to use/purchase. I basically want to create rock music. I primarily need the software for drums. I was thinking about getting Fruity Loops, does anyone here use this program? does it come with a guitar plug in thingy or would i have to buy that seperatly? im pretty naive when it comes to this stuff. Me being someone who can't afford expensive software, and also does'nt have the computer power to deal with anything too professional, I use Acoustica Beatcraft. Small, simple, easy to use. There's lots of settings and functions, and effects can be added to individual sample, tracks or the entire project. I have no experience with any other software so this is the only help I can give at the moment.

I'm a huge Logic Professional fan myself. I've been using it for over 4 years now. The only shit is, that it's only for Mac, and pretty expensive.
Nuendo and CuBase are the other programs, which I sometimes use, and they're also pretty good, but I'd always choose for Logic, just for it's easy, user-friendly lay-out and endless possibilities.

If you just want to straight up record some stuff really quick, Audacity is free, and you can apparently use some cool add-ons with it. I use FL Studio 6 (Fruity Loops), and it's pretty cool. It can be kinda of a bitch if you don't know what you're doing, but once you learn how to do the basics, it runs a lot smoother. I'm not sure about any guitar plug-ins for it, though. Try to look up some tutorials for it online.

It's free, but it's quite nice for free stuff - it's 16 track recorder and VST host, you can plug up to two VST plugins per recorded track and up to three master plugins. Plugins work realtime on played track and have proper GUI, not like in Audacity, where you have to process (and in effect modify) track first to hear the effect and use bunch of enigmatic sliders to set it up.

Contrary to Audacity, it requires ASIO drivers, though. Not a big problem in the age of asio4all and KX drivers which make ASIO device of $0.5 soundcard, I guess

Yeah FL is easy to use but if you can get used to Abelton, Logic or Protools go with that. FL is really really easy to use.

The important thing? Just do it.
