New ones are overpriced and not that big of a piece of handcraft art as the pre 1995 ones. But they are still good guitars though.

I hear everywhere PRS are really good, but style-wise, ehm, mmh, erf...
Their design lacks a bit of character and personality I think . And it's too smooth... At least some different models would be great, like a soloist body.
In fact I find their body just a bit unballanced, with a big ass and small horns (but the carved top and bevels are great).

A PRS with a jackson warrior or RR body would be damn cool.

PRS are definately the best and the early models were the best of the best since they were all handmade. However, don't get me started on good ol Ed Roman there. I live in Connecticut along with that dirt bag and he's one of the slimest guitar salesmen you would ever meet. He's the kind of guy that would look a person over when they walked in the store and would decide right then how much he was going to charge you based on your apperance. He'd keep a running record of your past purchases so that he would know how much he could rip you off for. He gained a reputation for making knockoff BC Rich guitars and then selling them to kids who didn't know better. A complete and utter slimeball.

Yeah, a lot of people are like that. I love going guitar shopping though, guys in the shops always assume I know nothing cos I'm a girl, and then get really surprised when I know stuff, particularly seeing as last time I was educating the guy on new models, just get a great reaction from them all, lol

I'm in the process of looking into my first true custom guitar. I'm either leaning to a Driskill or a Warrior. The reason I'm doing this is because after all my research, I can't find one popular guitar maker that will offer awesome craftsmanship and true pride in their work-for me. I want a bulletproof, stunning and personally-tailored guitar. Driskill does amazing work, and it'll take a year to get it. I'm waiting to see if he'll allow a 25 1/2" scale neck to be used, because most guitars he offers are 25". That's the deal breaker for me, which sucks because his guitars are probably the best built. The Warrior Isabelle seems to be one that keeps catching my eye. I dunno. I still got a bit to save..



A word of advice- If you like to play in lower tunings such as C, don't buy a guitar with a 25" scale neck!! So many people look at PRS, Gibsons and stuff like that, but you are compromising your tunability. Even a 25 1/2" scale neck gives you a tough time keeping perfect tuning in CGCFAD. Thick strings cannot save you. You can cheat a bit on the top string and tune it to your strumming or softer picking, but in reality it's an endless battle. I really don't know why kids would buy a 7 string and tune to Drop-W with a short scale neck..

I was in awe when I saw A Perfect Circle, hearing how in-and-out of tune the guitars were going on open chords. I mean, a Gibson is a 24 3/4" neck, and they play in C or C#.. It was audible. I reaffirmed this experience after I heard the entire set from the board. Absolute fluctuation. Don't even get me started on Soulfly..

I just think of all the guitars out there, there's so many corners cut that most kids don't know where to look. I know why I want 6100 frets. I know why I want a master-grade, honduras mahogany, neck-thru guitar with an ebony fretboard. I know of course that few builders offer good, exotic stuff. Few people see the reasoning. Just trust me guys, if you're shopping for a new axe, and you're gonna throw down a grand or two, look hard at what you're getting first. If they are gonna compromise, make sure that it's in a way that benefits you. I am lucky that I can finally afford a hand-crafted guitar, but you don't have to have one. It's just important to me. If you wanna get a guitar that fits and feels great, resonates well, looks presentable and tunes well, wait and save if you can. PLAY as many different ones as you can. Hope this helps.

I own a PRS Singlecut, and a couple of custom ESP's & Jacksons. All great guitars, but to be honest with you, independent luthiers who have been making instruments by hand for years is where it's at.

There's something to be said about completely hand built instruments by 1 guy, not an assembly line of folks.

I got -90 Custom 24 w/ birds. Which is nice. Expensive, but totally worth the money!!! Also 80s Kramer USA Stagemaster which is neckthru. Not at all as sweet as PRS but has rediculous amounts of sustain. Ugly as hell and not worth a lot nowadays, but god damn I haven't ever tried guitar with that amount of sustain, which is weird because it has a Floyd unit. I can't undestand that one, but easily can own one!
