I've finally realised what kills my musical abilites, and it's staring into the program Guitar Pro. You'd think that a tabbing program that helps you basically make music would be more useful for making music than hindering.

HELL was I wrong. After several attempts at cracking down and opening guitar pro, within 6 hours I never got anything done and sank lower and lower into fucking around with improv solos. Guitar Pro is so damn ORGANISED!!

It takes so horribly long to do everything and to figure out how long those notes you played actually were, so much to a point that you give up and just replace it with a more organised note. In the end, you come up with something repetetive, boring and crap, and it just sounds so horrible you give up and don't bother recording anything.

This is what has happened to me many a time. Guitar Pro is useful in it's right place, just not when you want to record an album.

I found Guitar Pro more useful as a tool for uploading tabs for other artists' songs. I'd rather write my own out freehand.

I only use GP to tab out already completed songs. It's not very good for composing - I rather just record the riffs into Cubase.

Yeah you'd think it would be a help and not a hinderance. Most of the time I can play a riff a lot faster than I can track it (I tend not to "write" per se but noodle and make mental notes of what works) but maybe if I had a MIDI guitar it would come in handy. Putting notes in by hand sucks.

And I tend to very quickly get uninspired when I hear my (imo) awesome riff I just made up played like a robot through something that makes it sound like a Nintendo.

I love getting down basic ideas into powertab...guitar pro I just can't get on with though..there's something I like about the simplicity of powertab, I seem much more connected to the music I'm trying to write down, rather than worried more about this fancy program if that makes sense
