People that don't eat meat will never enjoy barbecues, spaghetti with Bolognese, ravioli, Pizza, couscous, paella ... etc

How sad is this ?

I don't want to be convicted to a veggie spirituality when a good steak is excellent with salad and herb-roasted potatoes !!!

Tonight, I will pray for you veggies because I cook tagliatteli pasta with a carbonara sauce

Why? I eat almost all of those things! There are so many meat sustitutes on the market that you can make just about anything! I make pizza with Yves Veggie Pepperoni, meatless bolognese is really easy with TVP, veggie ground "beef" or crumbled veggie burgers, our neighbourhood supermarket even has a bottled veggie bolognese. We have cheese ravioli, and for barbecues we do burgers, veggie hot dogs, or Veat makes an awesome veggie "chicken" that's great on the barbeque.

We are not deprived.

I think you presume too much. A great deal of research has been done to make the veggie meat taste like real meat. Actually, some brands taste too much like real meat so I don't like them.

Do I eat candy? A lot of chocolate and gelato. That's about all. Not all candy contains gelatin. However, a lot of gelatin now is made from sea weed so you can have vegetarian gummies.

yeah, there are veggie Schnitzels that taste absolutely awesome! Also burgers and all kinds of other stuff. I seriously never thought myself that I could like that stuff but some stuff is really good, of course I don't like everything but when I used to eat meat I didn't like everything either. Stuff like Haggis for example (just for you Steph, tee hee)

Those vegan substitutes for meat are probably made from artificial chemicals. the flavorings are all artificial, and are really not good for you. It would be in your best interests, healthwise, to go with organic and natural products. this way you avoid artificial flavorings and are having food that hasnt been sprayed with pesticides or pumped with hormones.

I am not a vegetarian myself (i love meat), but i know all about vegetarian substitutes and the lifestyle of a vegan.

Being a vegetarian is solely based on what you eat. Leather seats, leather jackets, silk shirts, etc are not a problem for the regular vegetarian. When you start making it a lifestyle, you are considered a vegan. Vegans are strict with what they eat, purcahase, and use in their everyday lives. It is a tough lifestyle, but it is definitely one to be honored.

I have a concern for the environment and hate animal creulty, but I enjoy eating meat and wearing leather jackets. I guess im just a hypocrite, but its a tough world :)

For the most part I keep vegetarian at home, but more importantly (in my opinion, and in my case) I try to keep organic and sustainable. It's the conditions, the practices and the chemicals involved with farming that turns me right off meat. And it scares me how tvp and other substitutes are made, but they do taste pretty close to the real thing!

On the other hand if it's a rabbit I cought around the house or organic grass feed beef from the farms back at my home then im into it! But only a small portion, the amount of meat we eat in the "developed" world is just plain wrong, and if we could at least reduce the portion sizes we would be much better off.

If im at a dinner party or a barbie and its meat all round I will eat it, I think its a shame to turn away food and let it go to waste, and then go home hungry and eat something else.

As for the lifestyle of being vegan, I think its possible now more than ever to live with minimal impact on the earth, and if this means using some leather and animal products so be it.

I commute by bicycle and use a hard leather seat, its made by a little artisan company in england, it will last probably as long as my arse will, if I was to ride a plastic modern equivalent I would go through 10 to 20 in that time, I think my choice has far less impact.

By doing a bit of research, buying what you NEED and buying smart you can eat that steak and still sleep easy at night! Having said that more power and respect to anyone who has ever even thought about what impact they have on the world and on thier bodies, we are in the very small minority.
