well, i've ended up simply using the line out from my amp straight into the mic or line-in socket on my soundcard, 'cos that seems to yield the best results with cakewalk. using a mic, you just have to be spot on with everything. I normally use a marshall jackhammer distortion/overdrive pedal, but for recording i just use the amp distortion on my Marshall MG100...I find it's best to play around with set-ups you'd never use because they just might turn out to record better...

for what it's worth, I've found Sonar 3 to be pretty damn good.

Thats damn good quality for a home recording and the songs pretty decent too :D Some of the sequences makes it sound like a more epic Tool. I'm trying to get into Cubase personally but its a total bitch to set it up, so I just usually stick to a program called Tracktion.

GREAT WORK, LAD! LOVE IT!
Ahh, fresh innovative stuff, far from mainstream!
Nice performance, by the way...KILLER PRODUCTION!

You're from Britain, eh? Just guessing, but your voice sounds
very british...Who's laughin there? You CAN tell ones nationality
by his voice! Just kidding...
But your vocals remind me of Brian Molko quite often, maybe that's
why I thought your from the island...

thanks guys, that really is too kind! glad you like it though...

maybe you'll hate the next one, i've just put a second song up!

I've not spent quite as much time with this one and i had to use a worse drumkit, so it's not quite as 'finished' as i'd like, but i can't afford to spend years and years on this (2 songs in 1 year so far) so I thought i'd just put it up anyway - i can always change it again later....

Lad, don't worry about time...

My "Terraformer"-project took 5 1/2 years, and STILL it's not 100%
finished. I'm still re- and destruturing...sigh...guess I'll have to make
some decisions soon, or it'll NEVER be finished...

Dude, if you feel you haven't spent enough time on this track, then that makes this track even more impressive than it already is! The guitar in particular is wonderful. It really suits to post something like this on this forum, I think that anyone digging Ocean Machine would really dig this.

yeah, i listened to ocean machine for the first time in ages the other day and i realised what a massive influence it's been on me - first solo devy album i got way back when i was in school, i ran into town during my lunch break, bought it, ran back to school and listened to it all afternoon in the library. ahhh, great days.

don't like replying to myself, but i'm actually looking for other musicians for this now. So if any of you live in nottingham, england....i'm looking for two more guitarists, a bassist, and a drummer. if you can sing as well it'd be a plus.

[/hopelessly long shot]

I'd love to pack my bags and come over, lad.
I have relatives living in Nottingham, so that wouldn't be a big problem.
But I'm into my own serious shit now..."Terraformer" eats me alive!
Anyway...I hope you'll find some buddies willing to support you!
Keep the great work up! Waitin' for more stuff to come!

All the best!
