Talk about other artists here (even though they all rip off Meshuggah)

tool - aenima

i hadn't listened to it in a while, what a good album...

Also Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, this album is incredible. The only other band to go from super heavy to super mellow like SP is Opeth. But don't be fooled, SP gets quite heavy. IMO this album is one of the landmark albums of the 90s.

One of my favorites, so many great memories connect to this album too.

BUMP

Porcupine Tree - Stars Die: The Delerium Years 1991 - 1997.

A superb 2 CD set in a beautiful box with a big booklet detailing the early years of the band. Songs are rarities, B-sides and extended versions of songs from SW's debut "On The Sunday Of Life" right up to "Signify".

THE definitive introduction for anyone considering getting into these guys...from what most would consider the "proggier" half of their career.

Awesome. Especially the song listed below. 8) 8)

EDIT: Here's a pic:

I have seen this release in HMV...I may have to actually get it. I am rapidly beginning to see that everything PT has released is worth getting!

I am most curious about Stupid Dream and Up The Downstair. Do you have either, Dave?

I just a li'l ol' PT slut, I is...

Yep, got all of their albums. ('cept "Deadwing" )

Up The Downstair is more prog than Stupid Dream, but they are both brilliant for slightly different reasons. Buy everything!

God, I wish Messrs. Townsend and Wilson would do a collaboration one day.

May have to kidnap one and throw him at the other...

heh heh

I read interviews with both of them where they said that they could actually imagine to collaborate with one another if time allows it...so there´s hope. We just have to tell them to think about it again!

It could happen you know...

Right:

S.W produces Opeth, tours with them in support of their massively PT-influenced 'Damnnation' album. Mikael guests on 'Deadwing'. They are good friends by all accounts.

Gene plays drums for Opeth. Mikael speaks of Dev on website the same month. Ryan is a big PT fan (or so he says heh). Dev refers to Blackwater Park when speaking of his upcoming writing technique.

Dev and Mikael both appear on the Ayreon album.

Soooo...get Mikael, S.W and Devin all in the same room, right now!

EDIT: I keep remembering things!

I think we are getting musically aroused. We should castrate ourselves immediately!

The thing is, that although there are huuuuge similarities between SW and DT, and they are both equally skilled and respected....if they were to collaborate, what would they do?

Even a vocal guest spot would be nice, but what about something more than that?

(sometimes its ok to have these fantasties, heh)
