cenotaphia wrote:Hello everyone at the DTB discussion board!

First off, I'm a new member to this board and I hope that everyone will enjoy my stay here.

Regarding my subject title, I do in fact intend to apologize to Devin Townsend and bandmates! I had the fortune of meeting them in 2003 during a show in Montreal; however, a friend working at the venue that night snuck me backstage while the band was having supper and although everyone signed my CD booklet and were cool about the intrusion, I felt so bad about it and still do to this day! So, Devin & all, if you don't remember this happening then I guess I'm pretty lucky but if you do, please accept my sincerest apologies!

First of all....Welcome to the board Cenotaphia ! I hope you're having fun here...

Secondly, no need for apologies ! I do remember you or someone who came into our dressing room while we were eating (must have been you) and it's all cool. We've had some fans do some crazy shit to get signatures or meet Dev or whatever ! Put it this way....you were polite when you got in the room, you were respectful of our time and you did'nt hang out and watch us eat ! LOL ! It was all cool and hopefully you have a cool memory from that meeting and that show. We are all pretty chilled-out guy's who are appreciative of our fans !

The short, heavy-set guy with a Hockey Jersey you guy's are talking about is a cool guy named Eric who comes out to all the Devy (SYL or DTB) shows that go thru Montreal. He always wear's a Philadelphia Flyers jersey and he's a cool guy.

Lastly, when you came into our dressing room I remember I was eating this awesome Penne Chicken Pasta with a Ceasar salad....it was awesome ! Funny I can remember stuff like that huh ?

Again, welcome to the HDR Boards and have fun with all the very cool people who post here...

Sweet jesus! I've been to many metal shows in Montreal over the past 5 years but I never made an ass of myself the way I did trying to meet DTB. Honestly! Not only did I interupt the band's supper, but my friend who was working at that show snuck in with me and almost got fired because a promoter saw us leave once I got my autographs.

The next time you're in Montreal, I'll greet the band with items to autograph in one hand and a great big bowl of penne pasta with chicken (althought I must say that I do prefer penne arrabiata!) in the other hand. Don't worry, I'm of italian origin so you won't be disappointed with my cooking skills and it will at least give me a chance to make up for last time's rudeness.

Eric is the kind of guy you never forget! I rarely cross his paths at shows but I do imagine him to be a friendly and interesting person.

man...this thread makes me want to hunt down HORGH''s e-mail addy and say sorry for completely ignoring him a few years ago. He stood only 2 feet away from me and stared at me from behind his big sunglasses. All I did was trying to talk Peter Tägtgren's ears off!

arrgh

damn, I know the feeling very well, man!

Sounds cool......I'll try your Penne Arrabiata  ! Just kiddin', it does sound good though !!! No need to cook nothing (I don't doubt your cooking skills for a second either !), it's all good. Just show up with stuff you want autographed and say "Wassup" to us, we're all easy going guy's and easy to talk to. Again, we appreciate the support you Devy fans give us, sooooooo much. Thank you !

Have fun on these boards...

Did you say Peter Tagtgren?

There are 2 people in the metal industry that I NEVER had to the courage to talk to. Peter & Pasi (ex-Amorphis singer). I never approached Peter at a concert because I admire his work so much and am completely horrified of the thought of sounding like an idiot or not being able to muster any words. As for Pasi, I don't know... I'm under the impression that he's not a very outgoing? or social? person. Maybe it's because of the impression he gives his fans on stage - reserved and unhappy. 4 years ago when I had started university, I was hosting a radio show and someone set up with an interview between Pasi & I. At the show, I started to approach him to ask him if he had a few minutes for me to conduct the interview, but then when I was a few feet away from him, I turned my heels, walked somewhere else and didn't cross his path for the rest of the night.

Has someone ever met Pasi? I'm wondering if I've misjudged the guy all this time!

By far, one of the nicest musicians I have ever encountered is Gene Hoglan.

ooooh I hear ya!
I pretty much performed a Buddy Christ on him by just pointing, giving the thumbs up and murmuring *youruleyourmusicisawesomeyoufuckingruleMANdudeyeahyourule"

Not being able to muster any good qords/questions is A NIGHTMARE! Still to this day I am mortally afraid of interviews. I never know what to ask!
(I work for a magazine and am SUPPOSED to interview musicians)

I've met Pasi once, we were one of the warm-ups before their show in a local small festival years ago. Just got to backstage, I remember I was sweating like hell and didn't see where I was walking, then bumped to him. He just took a towel from Jan's hands and gave it to me, then lifted both thumbs up and gave a quick smile.

He's a scary guy. When I actually saw him smiling, it really made me more bothered than seeing him grim as he always is.

thefiller...: didn't you read the initial responses to this thread? scroll back you silly goose! hehehe. as long as the band doesn't eat horse manure or dead monkey foetuses, i personally couldn't care about their diet.

ibrokeastring: what magazine do you write for?

stonegaze: I have never seen a picture, video, or live show where Pasi smiles! But this can be said for a lot of musicians, I guess. At least he wasn't a prick and told you to wipe yourself clean because your sweat might stain his designer clothes, hehehe...

Hehe, guess he was having a good day then. :) When their gig was done and guys came down to backstage, I gave my own clean towel to Jan and apologized Pasi for bumping to him - he just looked at me, nodded and went away. :? Strange lad.
Jan's much more nice, we chatted for a while about drums, said cheers and he told a rude joke. (if I remember, it was this one: "When do you know your woman is too big? - You can't reach it when trying from front, it can't be done from back and you don't have the courage to get under...")

Had to put Amorphis' Tuonela in cd-player. Nice memories after all. 8)

You should've replied with a joke of your own: ''What do you do when your man can't tell a joke? You cut off his d!ck, feed it to a heard of hungry cows and watch him bleed to death while he cries for mommy.''

Oh come on, his joke wasn't any better!
