I use Windows, but I prefer Linux. I like to play games a lot and Linux is still a bit lacking in the music recording department. It's superior in server usage though.

windows isn't so bad

Yes it is. Its also purposely designed with flaws so people need SP2s. Its one way MS controls the market.

Look at how shit the security flaw is with XP, if you don't have sp1 you can get a bloody virus without doing anything!

No viruses on mac, no spyware, no adware... XP IS GREAT!! not

i use XP when i'm just screwing around. But for any kind of technical work i do linux is far superiour!! Be it coding, pc repair, or network troubleshooting. All the software for it is free and far more configurable then any windows alternative.

If any of you are interested in trying it out download a copy of knoppix. It's can be run completely off a cdrom.

If any of you guys are curious about linux but are intimidated it's complexity feel free to ask me questions.

I'm still on Windows 95, and it's a royal piece of shit.

I use both Windows and Linux... it depends on the thing I want to do... I just see an OS as a tool... And you've got to use the right tool for the right job... At home I only run Windows though, and if configured correctly it is very stable. Never have any problems with it...
I also maintain both a Linux and Windows network, and can't really say that one is better than the other one... they are... different... Depends on what I need...
Windows is a lot easier to use for most people though than linux

The problem with Macs is that almost nobody in my neighborhood is using them. So it is pretty out of the question to use a mac (for me at least)...

You're a warrior :p

Windows is not so bad after all. If I could set up a ghost to format more regularly that'd be great. I use 2000 or XP and exept the last virus that surprised everybody (the one that made the computer shut down after 1 minute), there's not much problems. Of course if a big bad virus that delets everything should surprise eveybody I'll lose eveything, but this would also ruin the whole world economy so I don't care much as I would soon die of starvation to do civil war or something like that...
More seriously I don't have much problems, exet that bug that sometimes happens, and make sit impossible to change the connection parameters.
I never installed any service pack neither (exept recently with 2000 pro for a software that required it).
But windows sucks when it comes to lan connexion. I've never been succesful to configure a poor-little LAN between my sister's computer and mine. It works by default, but as soon as I want to install another firewall than windows' integrated one, each time I want to give some proper IP for each comp, nothing works anymore...

Concerning mac, last time I used one, I couldn't use photoshop and indesign at the same time... Not enough memory  (it was a G4) At the same time I could use pshop and 3ds max on my old p3 450, which surely had less memory than the G4.
Not talking about the rounded mouse, to quote Dunkelheit again, THIS, is a royal piece of shit. You never know in which direction your mouse's going... Design is great, but ergonomy is more important IMO. Well maybe the G4 I used dwas not well configured, I hope so at least.

Apple's company policies are despiccable. Their hardware has a much worse price/performance ratio than comparable PCs. OS X doesn't need service packs? At what version are they now, 10.3.4? Or what? :) OK, excuse me, I have personal gripes with Apple, so I am rather biased - they won't see a cent of my money in the future... unless they do pick up support and development for emagic products on PC again.

I'd love to use Linux, but my main use for my PC is audio recording and music making. My fav tool for that (cubase) isn't available for Linux, so Windows it is.

And WinXP is rather stable, good to work with, and it runs fine for audio and the like.
