I read about that, isn't it because video games are considered a "toy"? Fricking sick game anyway, enjoy.

well, they're not even called Nazis in the game...they're called 'the regime' Don't know why they did that. But swastikas are illegal in video games here. In movies they are OK because movies are considered art. But video games...*sigh*...not so much.

So frustrating. After Earth is art but The Last of Us is a toy/bit of fun? Such flawed logic. It's absurd that it's still a common misconception (here too).

Beyond that I can't comment much on the whole WW2 thing as, basically, I'm not German! I'm reeeeally curious though. Is it something that's discussed/reflected upon often these days? How do people feel about that part of your history?

I took German in high school and my teacher was born in Germany, in fact was a young girl in Germany at the time of WW2. From what I remember of our class asking her, it's a big stain on their history, and a lot of Germans are totally ashamed of what happened. Anytime it's mentioned they are completely embarrassed that it happened, and with good reason. It's a shame, many people I know and overhear automatically jump to memories of Hitler when Germany is mentioned, which is completely unfair to the country and its people now.

Not knowing much else, I'd assume that when one thinks of a video game as just a GAME, perhaps they think the swastika is being TOYed with, or used PLAYfully, and therefore trivialized. Or maybe they think that it should only be used in helping people remember the Holocaust and the horror of it, not as plot piece in anything else. Just a shot in the dark at trying to understand legislature though. *shrugs*

It's interesting, I think of quite a number of things before I think of the war when someone mentions Germany. I have a direct personal link with WW2 as both grandfathers served (in the Pacific and Africa, not Europe). But I still think of all sorts of cultural references before I would think "Hitler"!

Ditto Japan. Japanese culture is beautiful and fascinating and I think of films, music, ancient history, work ethic, dedication to family, organisation, all that wonderful food, hilarious TV... long before I think of what my grandfather saw in battle (and it wasn't good).

I totally get that what happened to all those innocent people would be an immense source of pain and anguish for many Germans though. Keen to heat what Lars' take on it is.

I do remember laughing my tits off at the German episode of Fawlty Towers and feeling so sorry for those poor German tourists who were just trying to have a holiday in Torquay (sp?) and ended up being accosted by this idiot!

Man, now I want to get on a plane and fly to Nippon and Deutschland!

Ditto for me as well, I think only of Hitler when he's mentioned, and even when I do it's not in accusation of Germany. Tyrants come from everywhere, doesn't mean the rest of the fellow countrymen are the same way. Personally I tend to think of the food when I think of Germany. Recently now I think of opera, with my dad's recent trip to Bayreuth for Wagner's G

hmmm, a remaster of Mastodon's Remission, eh? Sounds intriguing!

I bought Lego movie in 3D, Harold % Maude, Faust, Woman in the moon, Time Bandits, Twelve Monkeys, Monuments Men and Transcendence on Blu-ray. And also Metro 2033 Redux on PS4 and it looks awesome!
