Talk about whatever you want to here, but stay correct

So there's an Australian gaming show called Good Game. They just held a poll for Australia's top 100 games of all time. Google it if you're interested, but it got me thinking about what my favourite games are.

Well, that's a tough one to think about. Especially as certain franchises have games that pip one another in certain ways. But what the hell, here's my shot (also subject to change):

1. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
2. Doom II: Hell on Earth
3. Batman: Arkham City
4. Super Metroid
5. Mortal Kombat (2011)
6. Hitman: Contracts
7. Heavy Rain
8. Super Mario World
9. Donkey Kong Country
10. Star Wars: Battlefront II

Like Justin, I also loved Red Dead Redemption, Street Fighter II (who didn't), and also want to shout out the other Doom, MK (1-3), Grand Theft Auto, Hitman and Arkham (Asylum anyway) games, as well as old Mario, the original Wolfenstein 3D, Beyond: Two Souls, True Crime: New York and even Dead Island as games which addicted me best and weren't just mere distractions.

My ten will probably not be correct in order of enjoyment, because I can't really decide which one I've liked best.

1. Chrono Trigger
2. Myst (PC)
3. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
4. Tales of Symphonia (N64)
5. Super Mario World
6. Mario Kart 64
7. Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (Bloodmoon and Tribunal included)
8. Shadowgate (NES game)
9. Warcraft 3
10. Mystic Quest (N64)

Added what system for those games that maybe aren't as popular. But these are some of the games that most impacted my life or had the longest playing time/enjoyment for me, or games that I have played multiple times. But most all of them I have nothing but fond memories of, and I can recall specific childhood moments where they just left in a sort of awe. Skyrim was and is good, by the way, but the storyline of Morrowind was simply captivating. It was one of the best I've ever played, despite it's ridiculous loading times on Xbox.

That's a pretty great list, Bookwyrm.

Good call on Doom. Got me thinking about Quake - I was totally absorbed by that game at the time. Battlefront 2 is another great call. So much replay value.

And that feeling when you finally finished Super Metroid! What a game.

KN, I know what you mean about games being linked with memories. Both Morrowind and Skyrim are tied to important times for me and I can't separate the game from the memory. I also remember playing Morrowind and being amazed by how much love and care Bethesda put into their games. Terry Pratchett is a fan - that says it all.

Pff, don't really know about a top 10... maybe if I consider hours invested into it, or split it into my (old) PC gaming era and whatever I played on consoles (PS2 and Xbox 360, in my case). Can't say these are in any particular order either.

Civilization II
Death Rally
Psycho Pinball
Mortal Kombat 3
Command & Conquer (the original one)
Grand Theft Auto
Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit
Sanitarium
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
Ubisoft Formula 1 Racing Simulator

Honorable mentions: Hitman II/Blood Money/Contracts, Jagged Alliance 2, Pinball Fantasies, Jones In The Fast Lane, all Sierra adventure games (King's Quest, Police Quest, Space Quest, Quest For Glory), Lotus 3, Stunts... I'll stop because this list can go on forever, and I find it considerably harder to choose the more I think about it. :)

Console-list:
GTA Vice City
GTA San Andreas
Red Dead Redemption (Grand Theft Horse)
Assassin's Creed II (played this one soon after I lived in Italy for a few months, it was so cool to see Venice in this game)
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Portal
Forza 3
Mass Effect (the series I suppose, but the first one was something special for me)
Fallout 3
Flatout Ultimate Carnage

I remember the Sierra Adventure Games! That's another series that should've made my list: Gabriel Knight 1-3 :)

Lots of love for SNES games which is awesome to see.

The Super Famicom came out in Japan in 1990 and I have very fond memories of being almost overwhelmed with anticipation when I saw screenshots of games like Pilotwings and F Zero. And then they turned out to be even more amazing than I could have hoped for.

Mode 7, baby!

playing Infamous Second Son right now and it's tons of fun. Wasn't a fan of the first Infamous game but this one rocks. Yes, it's still somewhat monotonous but the gameplay is just so much fun that you can easily forgive that. And it looks gorgeous too.
