I've only just paid attention to the fact that movie watching on TV will now likely be severely curtailed owing to the World Cup having started.

Oh woe is me.

I just remembered that I found a good quality "Lost in Translation" at a Goodwill a few months ago. I hadn't seen that movie in so long, and I loved it way more than I remembered liking it before. So that counts in this thread I suppose.. I just love how lost you feel. Like, that's probably just how I would feel in Japan, albeit a bit more overwhelmed. And the ending, (won't spoil it for any who may not know), I just love wondering what he said. And I'm glad we'll never know. It makes it more mysterious and gives you that "I'm gonna watch it again and figure it out" quality.

Since it was Friday the 13th last night (and a full moon to boot), I decided to watch The Blob. The 80's version; that one gets better with every viewing.

Robocop

Remake this one, and surprisingly good one too. Takes more serious approach to things than original, didn't even really mind the absence of blood and gore. Is this cult classic like original, no but definitely worth checking out.

Lovely little movie. Bill Murray is a god amongst men and shows just enough humanity in LIT to be completely charming. Looking forward to watching it again.

Now, lip my stocking.

I love Bill so much, I'm glad you three share my sentiments.

"Have you ever had deja vu Mrs. Lancaster?" "No, but I could check with the kitchen.." "That's alright, thanks."

This was even funnier imagining your cat was saying it, looking all smug.

To The Wonder.
It was really purty. Not exactly my cup of tea, but I enjoyed it, despite myself.
I read some reviews, and the term "pretentious" was thrown around a lot, and I can see why, as it's certainly not a typical movie.
Not that every movie that's different is automatically pretentious, but it did have an artsy feel to it. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

I wonder sometimes why folks can't seem to grasp the fact that someone could enjoy an indie 'art film', and equally enjoy a cgi-heavy popcorn movie,
because it's all subjective, right?

I mean, it wasn't Airplane! good, but it was good, all the same. :)

Amen. There's nothing more tedious than a snob.

In all fairness, it was fun for the in-jokes and Campbell making an ass of himself, but too much of it was cringe-worthy, even for a self-aware horror comedy..

Edge of Tomorrow
I really thought I wasn't going to enjoy this movie, as the trailer came off to me as a cross between Starship Troopers and Groundhog Day with a touch of The Matrix.
But one of my friends treated me to it, so I went along and found it wasn't as derivative as I was ready to dismiss it. Yes the influences of other films are there but it's told in a way that feels like its own story, not entirely dependent on visual eye-candy (though there's plenty of that). I found all the characters engaging, including Tom Cruise, reminding me that every so often he can actually live up to his status as an actor and not publicity whore. Emily Blunt and Bill Paxton are delightful, each driving and even stealing their respective scenes.
Worth recommending.
