Ok so it was actually quite good.

It was long.. A bit too long. But the upside of the length was that it was spent primarily on the characters.

Peeta is a much more likeable kid this time around. He's still a bit of a softy but I suppose that's his purpose - to serve as the innocent and the one worth protecting. Nice twist, rather than the usual damsel in distress schtick.

Nice to see Phillip Seymour Hoffman pop up and I always have time for Donald Sutherland.

Jeffrey Wright and Amanda Plummer... Now that's good casting. Tucci is just the man and looks like he's having a lot of fun.

There's another female character who pretty much steals the film for me... And I've forgotten her name. As far as teenage girl novel-to-film adaptations go, this is infinitely better than the insufferable Twilight films. And Bella is a pathetic female lead, whereas Katniss just gets the fuck on with it while the boys worry about their love lives, for a change.

Overall it was much more enjoyable than the first one, if not amazing.

No doubt I'll be seeing the third one and I don't think I'll mind it now.

hmmm, might have to check it out then. I'm always a bit worried that stuff like that ends up being the next Twilight atrocity. And I fucking hate Twilight.

Oh I agree, fuck Twilight.

Sorry to any fans, but seriously... There's a world of quality novels and film out there that you could be enjoying instead of that drivel.

The Hunger Games is hardly a million miles from Twilight, but I didn't hate it.

With little baby due soon I think I'll be able to catch up on all these movies you guys have seen that I haven't. I say that so easily... The 2 year old will probably decide to drop his day sleep randomly and screw us over royally.

I also have a hankering for old sci fi. Speaking of which, I'm still waiting for a movie based on ACK's Rama books.

love old/old school sci-fi too. There's a relatively new sci-fi movie out called 'Europa Report' which is supposedly pretty old school and pretty good. I bought it but haven't watched it yet. I should do something about that....

watched a drama called What Maisie knew last night and very much enjoyed it. It's basically the story of atrocious parents neglecting their daughter. The interesting twist however is that you experience the whole thing from the little girl's perspective. Very well done, maybe not for everyone though.

Got around to seeing Oblivion last night. It reminded me of Moon, which in this case is a bad thing as it cannot hold a candle to that movie. Nice visuals though, but I could do without the gratuitous shots of Tom Cruise's genital area. It's slightly embarrassing when a movie shows off all its fantastic CGI and whatnot and the next shot half the screen is filled with Tom's balls. Balls balls balls.

Gorgeous movie to look at and it also made me think of balls, but in a different way. Equally unpleasant.

Gremlins 1 & 2 on a big-screen double feature.

Finally, I got to view the scene with Hulk Hogan in the proper context. Funny enough, there were a couple of projection problems with the first movie, with the ratio zooming in and out or the screen going black; all after the gremlins show up. Makes you wonder.

Pissific Ram
It has giant robots and giant monsters. Plot is tripe but who cares. :D

3:10 to Yuma
It does not have giant robots or giant monsters but who cares. Plot is great. :D

And I agree with robvondoom...I like Gremlins 2 better too because it's way nuttier. WAY nuttier.

Elysium

I like Neill Blomkamp's style, very realistic and dirty like in District 9. Violence is shown like it is, ugly and it seem really hurt too. That being said, this seemed to be bit too long...ish. Didn' fall asleep though so in the end scale tips to positive side.

bought and watched it a few days ago too. I enjoyed it too but couldn't help but think that there was a lack of substance in this movie.
