well, there's good DVDs, sure. But on a large LCD TV they still look like a youtube video. Now try and watch a DVD using a projector and you're in for a real "treat". Sooner or later DVD will be a dead medium. Same goes for Blu-ray. And I'll always try to go with time.

I didn't see a difference between the DVD of By A Thread or the Bluray...(bluray was just for the premiere, but they played both)

DVD won't be dead in the sense of VHS, because the players are now backwards compatible. I'm not buying any blurays at the moment even though I have a player in my laptop, and to be honest I'll only get some after I get the projector I'm after (it does 3D and well...I'm unashamed to say I like 3D.)

I'm not saying that players won't be able to do DVDs anymore. I'm just saying that at some point DVDs will disappear more and more from the shelves. Maybe not tomorrow but at some point it'll happen because Blu-rays get cheaper and cheaper. You can get brand new movies on Blu-ray nowadays for 13 to 15 Euros here. Sometimes even cheaper. I remember a time when I spent 40+ Euros on just one freakin' DVD. Soon Blu-rays will be so cheap that there really won't be a necessity anymore to choose to buy a movie on DVD. Plus there's usually more bonus material on Blu-rays and the longer cuts are usually Blu-ray exclusives.

You can't buy tube TVs here anymore either. It's all LCD, LED or Plasma now. You can't stop time. Might as well go with it and enjoy the advantages as there really are no disadvantages.

Oh yeah, they'll eventually phase out, but not right now, especially as bluray is not standard in all computers yet (although my laptop is 2009, it's a gamer's laptop, everything's all HD, dolby, dedicated graphics blahblahblah) if everyone has a DVD player but not everyone has a bluray player, then people will still be buying DVDs for now and it'll probably be a slower graduation than VHS>DVD as Bluray player owners can still buy stuff on DVD and play it, when my VHS packed it in I couldn't simply just stick tapes in my DVD player.

I think the move to downloading movies will overtake both DVD and Blu-ray before it has a chance to get popular. I still only have DVDs.

that I agree with but I don't think it will take too long anymore. Blu-ray players get cheaper and cheaper and even the best DVD player craps out sooner or later. I know several of mine have, heh. I don't know.
Dunno, but to me there's just something very special and magical about buying one of my favorite movie (sometimes for the 5th or 6th time) and then I finally buy it on Blu-ray and I know that this is as good as it gets and that movie very likely won't ever look any better on home video.

I remember being a kid and watching all these

They said that about music on CDs too. :P My kids don't understand why I'd want a CD when they can just download it from iTunes or 7digital or whatever.

well, there will always be a different physical medium and one always prevails. The problem with downloads is that downloading something might satisfy a consumer but it does not satisfy a collector and I believe (or hope) that there always will be enough collectors. After all, even vinyl had a revival.

Besides. Games get bigger and bigger and you need bigger and bigger discs for that. Even Microsoft seems to finally have an understanding for that as it looks like their next console will have a Blu-ray drive. To download a 50GB game you need a pretty good internet connection or it will take you days

You should stop buying clothes. You have no need for them.
