Cut my thumb the other day while gutting chickens. Right on the joint. Not a bad cut, but bled lots because fingers always do and especially on the joint.
put a plaster on it. It stopped bleeding after a while. Got on with life.
Delivering piglets, extracting pig afterbirths, dragging dead pig around, that sort of usuall day-to-day stuff.
Cut was fine. No pain beyond normal cut on finger pain. No sign of infection or anything.
Then yesterday a huge blister comes up on one side of my thumb. Except it's not a blister. It is hard and it is numb. then another one pops up the other side of the cut. Weird. Disinfect the whole thing again and go to bed.
This morning, looks exactly the same. Still no sign of infection, just these two lesions. AND PAIN. Down my whole thumb and up my index finger from the wrist.
BY mid morning it is creeping up my arm.
Went to Dr. Dr is perplexed. Could be anthrax. Could be a bewlidering variety of hideous animal-borne disease, but all my animals are healthy AFAIL (apart from the one that dropped dead on me, but that was something else. I hope).
Mega doses of antibiotics.
Now the blistery things have secondary blistery things appearing on the surface of them. Looks fucking vile. Real mutant stuff. My left hand is turning into something from a Troma movie.

^ In all my childhood years on the farm, playing with creatures both live and dead, I earned a healthy respect for NOT doing so with an open wound. I'd probably be sitting there with that steeped in as many different antiseptic liquids as possible.. flush the buggers out.
