Un-awesome: You are bowling along a busy road at 65-70 mph. The cambelt snaps. Catastrophic engine failure. Piston valve carnage. Only about 2 foot of space beside road before 12 foot deep drainage ditch. Big lorries bowling along behind.
Engine = scrap
Car = scrap
New set of tyres, washer pump, headlight, rear door electric motor assembly a couple of weeks ago = major waste of time and money.
Pick up kids from school in half an hour = not going to happen.
Transporting a 5 person family in a 3 seater Land Rover, with school runs, farm work and two separate jobs = tricky
Buying new car = financial straw that breaks camel's back

Although on the positive side, it was the only time that day that I did not have any kids in the car with me and was also in an area where I had mobile coverage, and I did manage to get the kids collected, the car off the road safely and walk home and get the car recovered safely so it could have been much worse.

Best of luck, hope everything is ok. :)

Find which fuse in your fusebox covers the lighting circuit and flip it out. When your guest complains say "Oh shit, you haven't blown the fuses have you?"
I used to use this trick in the studio to get rid of clients who would not go home, only I did it on the circuit that covered the main monitors. The horror on their faces when they thought they had blown a whole set of Genelecs always cheered my evening. By the following morning, having 'toiled all night' I had usually managed to 'repair the damage'. Quite often would get a goodly cash tip off them for my hard work into the bargain.

That, sir, is genius. She's gone home now but I'll remember it for future visits.

All the best with the car/financial situation.

A friend of mine just found out she's got lung cancer, she's getting treatment but it's spread to her liver and that's basically a death sentence. She's 70-odd (been like a mental Canadian nan where there was a lack of nan in my life since I was a stroppy teen) so she's had a pretty full life, but it's still pretty fucking gay. Oh well, beat goes on.

Similar thing to my Mum (lung, lymph system, brain) when she was just 55. :(
I agree with Nico. :evil:

Right knee is borked, walking is an annoying pain, and climbing stairs a painful experience.

the chilean government decided to regale every single member of the "cámara de diputados" (i guess you could equate that to chamber of representatives?) with an ipad 2, they even got to pick the colour of it, heh

120 members of said chamber, each making something close to 8 million CLP, and the state decided to spend 50 million more, just for the sheer hell of it.

im glad im not president, i would annihilate the lot of them.
